Firearms restrictions being proposed in Alberta.

Just got back from my local butcher. Told him he won't be seeing us anymore, and he already knows why from other customers. He's PISSED OFF! I hate to be the guy from ABP who answers the phone when he calls them on Monday morning....

Try to convince the butcher to get together with a few of his peers and import a load of US beef. Win-win-win.

Butcher still keeps customers, you get to eat cheaper beef, and best of all, the ABP will hear about it.

This stupid proposal will die.

Good point. I'll be talking with one of the owners on Tuesday, and will make that suggestion.

I like beef.

Alberta Beef. Bought a half off the inlaws the other day.

Will continue to enjoy Beef. :D
All of the immature posts villifying producers and calling for a ban can pretty much go eat Tofu.:nest:

My point is a couple of nancy boys in some boardroom do not speak for Alberta cattle producers as a whole. So you are going to punish the whole for the actions of a few? Sounds about the same as our federal gun registry doesn't it??? Everyone like it when the anti's lump us in with crazed lunatics who shoot up schools?

You guys are running off half-cocked;) this was not a resolution proposed and voted on by the entire membership, it was a suggestion from a small commitee.

This is a stupid suggestion on the part of the ABP. I really doubt it will even make the first draft. Most farmers I know don't have a clue this was proposed. Most thought it was stupid.

Man you sure can put a twist on the facts, eh? Like a real pro.

Hey, it's the ABP that are trying to punish ALL hunters as a whole, and yes it's just like the Federal gun registry. So us hunters are simply fighting back. If the ABP don't like it, then too bad. Tell them to scrap their stupid proposal and stop thinking like a bunch of Liberals from downtown Toronto.

According to the ABP they do speak for all beef producers. If you produce and sell beef you are an involuntary member in their group. You are forced to pay them a checkoff on every head you sell. Did you pay them on your 1/2 beef. If not you'd better pony up before they come after you.

The point of this thread is to get it squashed. I don't give a rats butt who thought it up. It is still being looked at by the ABP. If three idiots think it's a good idea there are probably more, it could pass out of the ABP. Then it goes onto the stakeholders meeting. Who knows what may happen there. A bunch of activists may get it through that and into law. It's best to smack this down hard and early while it is still a small fire.

I'm as po'd about this as anyone, and I don't buy my beef from the inlaws, I walk out back and harvest it.

Now go compose a letter to ABP and tell them how you feel. Talk to all the producers you know and get them to write letters to the ABP. A little prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I'm not half cocked, I'm locked and loaded!

Umm wrong.

ABP is a representative stake holder at the table. Their representatives are, last I heard, today bringing forth this proposal on ABP letterhead. I'm guessing Rick McNight was not asked to come to this table to represent himself, but to represent the ABP. The Alberta Beef Producers office in Calgary is aware of this and when I talked with them Monday they had no intention of asking their representative committee, at this table, to withdraw the proposal.

So I ask. What is the sentiment of the ABP then when it comes to this issue?

Well Mr. Bluff,

If I am a member of the "XYZ" and they propose an idea that may become law and use their influence as a stakeholder representative of the XYZ members to restrict the free movement and actions of the ZYX members and the general public, then it is perfectly acceptable. And by perfectly acceptable I mean that the ZYX members and the general public decide to boycott or restrict their patronization of the sole product of the XYZ membership, then that would be the appropriate political way of sending the message. Remember that the ABP stepped up to the political docket and proposed something to become a part of legislation. They are playing politics, and sometimes politics starts the effect from the bottom up (democracy) and when the membership of the ABP drives a cattle prod into the rear end of the ABP board of directors over this, then will we see results.
And I like beef. And Tofu. That's right, I said it.

No, it's not.

From Suka's post: Under "it is unlawful to...

9. discharge a firearm from or cause a projectile from a firearm to pass along or across:
a) a provincial highway,
b) a road that is paved, oiled, graded or regularly maintained, unless
- the road is held under any active disposition under the Public Lands Act or under an order under the Surface Rights Act, or
- the person is hunting game birds with a shotgun under the authority of a licence."

Have been hunting in Manitoba for almost 40 years...and it has been like this for as long as I can remember.

So what is the underlying motive?
Do farmers want people to pay a fee to hunt on private land?

Time for some of you Albertans to make friends with guys from BC and come hunting.

Actually, bird hunters are exempt, this is item 9 under General Regulations:

9. discharge a firearm from or cause a projectile from a firearm to pass along or across:
a) a provincial highway,
b) a road that is paved, oiled, graded or regularly maintained, unless
- the road is held under any active disposition under the Public Lands Act or under an order under the Surface Rights Act, or
- the person is hunting game birds with a shotgun under the authority of a licence.

THANK YOU SUKA,, I WAS Waiting for someone to CORRECT THE REGULATIONS GUY. UNLESS YOU ARE HUNTING GAME BIRDS WITH A SHOTGUN UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF A LICENCE

Now stop arguing with each other about stupidness and just write your letter to SRD TO STOP THIS STUPID PROPOSAL

I agree!

But there are always those who cannot see the forest for the trees and will react with the jerk of a knee.
