For those of you with CZ SP01 Shadows....

yeah the old girl is over 80,000 rounds now, and is a dedicated 22 now as well. So no more 9mm over her for awhile.
Even the 11lb recoil spring should be fine for feeding rounds in. I'm wondering if the problem Breitling604 was having were mag related, or related to dummy round that got stuck. The dummy round was obviously too long of a OAL for a Shadow (they are notorious for short chambers). The mag could also have been funky and not fed the round up into the slide properly. Having a Shadow puke at 400-600 rounds is definitely not normal.
I am a firm believer in running a gun 2000 rounds with no cleaning or lubing (other than lubed at the start) to see what you can expect, and pretty much do that all the time with my guns. I know you'll get people talking about accelerated wear and other silliness, and then those people might shoot 3000 rounds a year. I shoot around 60,000 rounds a year through my guns, and haven't seen this accelerated wear at all. Even my old girl, who is definitely looser than my new CE gun, shoots damn near as good, and has the best trigger of the 4 of them.

No, this is just something I was told at a store and I'm too new to know if it's right. Part of what I am trying to do is educate myself on all the components, slang, nomenclature etc that I need to know. He may have said recoil spring and I am repeating it wrong.

In the heat of the moment the store guy may have also meant recoil spring but it came out "main spring". Hard to tell.

Hey, Lead Hammer. If you're only getting out to shoot that much per year at the moment it may well explain a lot of the training issues you're having in your other threads. Hell, when I got my Shadow, which was my first gun bought with my "still wet" RPAL, I put over 1000 rounds down it in less than the first month. Cost of ammo cut me back a little after that :D But over the years I've managed to shoot about 9000 to 10000 rounds of center fire a year in my various matches and practices. Although this last year was a bit tight what with working on my house repairs and renos so I only got to shoot probably 7000 to 8000.

To be fair all this doesn't go down the Shadow. I've since added a heap of other handguns so my center fire expenditures are roughly split 50-50 between revolver and semi ammo.

This didn't stop me from also shooting up somewhere around 5000 rounds of rimfire as well. I seem to end up buying a case of it every spring.

BCrider, I am a very green pistol shooter for sure and I think I'm doing pretty good already. My questions are to speed up my learning curve, if I try and research ( talk to experienced shooters like yourself ) my shooting technique will be much more sound, and its easier to learn to do it the right way, that to fix a bad habit latter down the road.

I clean it around 500 rds or when I'm in the mood.. it never FTF's but I bet you could shoot a 1,000 and it would still function fine

This exactly. My shadow is a couple years old and just breaking in nicely at 30 000 rounds. Feed ramp is just a pain to clean if left longer then 500 rounds.

Some Hoppes 9 with a brass brush works well. Failing that, Mothers wheel polish and a dremmel. I typically clean my guns prior to a match since I don't usually shoot more than 200 rounds at the paper range. Lately, reloading with Titegroup and Berry TPRN, very clean powder. Keep a can of Break-Free handy too if you are in need of a quick fix at the range.

Then I took a 2 day class that was a little more combat oriented and it was pretty much shooting all day for 2 days straight and I didn't clean it at lunchtime or before I took it to day 2.

I'm curious what course you took and if you would recommend it?

Silvercore Level 2. I would definitely recommend it. Class of 6 and we learned a bunch and had a ton of fun. Everyone was super happy.

If you like it you will be sold on Slavex doing the Skills & Drills as it's pretty much something I plan to do weekly for the foreseeable future so long as he will have me.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out their website.

One of these days when work and the wife and kids don't ruin my plans you will see me at skills and drills. Of course it might be the year 2035 by then but think of the cool phasors we'll all have.
