I think this is what your looking to do. The stock is from an R-22 but I think a factory MP-5 stock is readily available. The Ruger just needs to be stripped down and the barrel replaced with one of those 8 1/2" barrels that FabSports carries. I just got a factory fore grip from the states instead of that black wood one that I through together. There is still work to be done on the top of the receiver with a fake gas tube and some other subtle features. The dummy receiver is not to difficult to make. I am meeting with a machinist next week to see about making bunches of them to sell. If that doesn't work out then it will be a fun one-off just for me.
I am also working on a Thompson but health has required that I slow down some so its a bit on-hold. I still want to get it finished and to that end I have now made a real walnut pistol grip (which isn't in the pic) and my second dummy receiver is finished.
I would like to have the receiver made up in quantities as well but its going to be on hold until I get the MP-5 completed. I'll keep everyone posted as to whether I can get a kit put together to sell, but it won't happen until mid winter-early spring.
I would however like some feedback. I was planning on putting a full kit together with all of the components included except the 10/22. I am finding that to be a problem. The wood furniture is available in the states and I ordered the butt stock and fore grip from surplus outlets. I would have ordered a pistol grip but I found it easier just to make one. So, I have scale it down to: I will have the receivers and sights made as well as the muzzle break and the rest is up to you. I guess it similar to the Nordic AR-22 kit. You still have to get other components to finish it.
So what kind of reception do you think I would get just supplying the dummy receiver and you do the rest. I know the MP-5 factory furniture is available in the states since thats where some of my parts came from and now I hear you can get here as well. Same with the Thompson. I wouldn't want to sell a kit that couldn't be finished with factory or surplus parts.
This is all predicated on being able to get a local machinist to do the work at a reasonable price. I would think anything over $400 retail would be too much for the market to bear so thats sort of where I'm at. I not promising anything other than to look into having them reproduced at this time. If it's going to cost too much than I guess it'll be a one off for me and thats it.
I'll try and keep everyone informed. If we do a production run on the MP-5 how many might be interested. I really shouldn't ask that question until you see the final design but it will be pretty close to what I've attached and at the same time it will give me an idea of the interest in something like this.
