From Lapua SK to ELEY

And for me Norma Tac 22 ( black box ) isn't worth it. As Federal auto match out performed it. And wasnt close to Eley Sport. But have not tried the red box tac 22.

I just use Tac 22 in my 10/22 that I just plink steel.

The Christensen that I owned came with a trigger tech trigger.

When you get a chance Im pretty sure your search will end with the Eley Benchrest Precision. My two custom semis love this ammo. Unlike many that recommend ammo that they obviously have no experience with. CUZ its not yet available I have actual targets shot with this ammo. The Lapua Long range may be a winner but its just another vanilla with a different wrapper until proven.
 
US shooters have had the Lapua LR and SLR stuff for over 1yr now. Results have been demonstrated to be very promising.

SLR would be similar to say a Midas+ or Xact in the 'higher speed' category. LR would be like a CenterX

Well most on here don’t live in the USA. Ammo we can’t get doesn’t do Canadians much good no matter how good it may shoot. Trying as much as available and finding great lot numbers are what really matters. Writing on the boxes is just flavours with o certainty of results. How was your experience with Lapua Exact? Wanna buy some , I’ve got a deal for you!!
 
Well, despite my earlier comments, I did manage to obtain a brick of SK Long Range Match* and it's real all right, I mean at least it's solid enough to hit myself over the head with it and knock myself out, should I wish to do so. As for how it shoots in my best rifle, that will wait for warmer weather but no matter what at least that itch has been scratched for now.

My rifles like SK Long Range, but SK Long Range is not Lapua Long Range.

Few Americans have had Lapua Long Range and Super Long Range for over a year. According to an accurateshooter.com bulletin dated January 15, 2023, "Ammo Availability: Lapua’s new Long Range rimfire offerings will soon be available at authorized Lapua retailers for delivery by the end of the first quarter of 2023." That suggested it was scheduled to begin to be available starting around the end of March 2023. There were some reports of it being available as early as the first week of February 2023, but it wasn't widely available until some time later.

For readers in general, as with all .22LR ammos results with this ammo will always be dependent on the quality of the lot in question. The name on a box is never a guarantee of it's performance, nor is the ammo's slightly higher average MV.
 
Both Tesro and Sporteque have a variety of 22LR from SK/LAPUA and ELEY. Quite reasonable and "IN Stock" as of today=now.
MANY of the above mentioned flavours.

Tesro has no stock of any SK ammo other than Standard plus. All thats in stock is mostly high end Eley and Lapua Exact. No Center X or Midas plus. This is from their website as of minutes ago. I keep checking but its not getting any better. 4 pages all out of stock and one on the second page.
 
Yep, Tesro is pretty thin now. I got the last 4-bricks of SK-RM earlier this week. Sporteque has several flavours of SK & Lapua still on hand.

You asked where I was getting the info from... that would be from US shooters reporting their results on their youtube channels. Some are showing some very impressive results way out there.

wrt to Cdn supply... well, that is a can of worms. Maybe some in Can now???

unfortunately, my experience with Xact was very poor. For the small fortune to get the last bricks to me, it shot with far more flyers then the grade and cost would suggest. If the answer is 'bad lot', then it makes the venture for more even less exciting.

I am resigned that rimfire is and will continue to be a game of luck fueled by way too much money and time. For my end uses, CX (hopefully, good lot) will serve my needs as the difference between 1 or 3 fliers is not worth that much money... and my Xact had way more then 1 flyer

If I am going to invest a bucket load of money, I will move to air rifles where I have a far better chance of controlling my outcome...and the LR results have been nicely demonstrated to be no worst (and likely, a whole lot better) then rimfire.

The only high end stuff for which there's a reliable supply is Eley. If for some reason I had to pick one brand to shoot all the time, that's what it would be. The only thing is that they are not so great on the long range ammo and shooting at 100 M and beyond with .22 LR is very much a fun challenge.
 
I bought 4-bricks from Sporteque a couple weeks ago and QC to Central NB was $60. Tesro is a couple hundred miles farther and only cost $40. * shipping also is Taxed !* Too bad they mostly only have 'high-priced' stuff left now. 4-bricks weigh 17# per Puro.

It's not clear that air rifle ammo is always consistent. It is also made in batches or lots and some are better or worse than others.

With regard to the experience described with X-Act, it's quite credible. Every variety of .22LR match ammo (a variety being the name on the box, for example Lapua X-Act or Lapua Midas + or Lapua Center X) can have poorly performing lots. The name of the variety of ammo is never a guarantee of performance.

The X-Act I've tested has been disappointing. Over the chrony some boxes from the same lot had ES as high as 70 fps. It didn't shoot well either. But the same can be said of Midas or CX. While I haven't tested any equally bad Midas yet, I won't be surprised if I do. I've had a CX lot that had atrocious velocity spreads, well over 70 fps. It performed terribly on target too.

On the other hand, I've had some very good Center X. One lot had over 80 ten shot groups at 100 that averaged under one inch -- but that was the exception. I've had some Midas lots that produced some very good results but not always consistently.

The bottom line is that it's not the name on the box that matters. It's the particular lot that shoots well in a rifle.

I've suggested elsewhere on this forum that it seems at times that in Canada we don't seem to get the really good lots of the top tier varieties. It may be entirely coincidental or there may be real reasons for some locales to rarely get vey good lots of the top ammos.

I don’t see in any of my posts where I ask where you got your info?? Once again turning words to your favour. Like you I read on many different platforms but I only comment on things I own and have used. Otherwise it’s just conjecture. Have you ever owned a Vudoo or used one enough to formulate an opinion. Ever shot any of the Lapua ammo you so freely promote without any actually being in Canada. I comment on SXXT I use and have experienced. There is a big difference. If you’re gonna quote me make sure I’ve said what ur quoting . Cheers YMMV
 
I don’t disagree with you one bit! But I do take offense to people saying I’ve said something that I haven’t. I have a lot of respect for Jerry but disagree on certain things. Doesn’t mean I don’t like him cuz I do like him. I’ve recommended him many times for many thing’s to many members. Opinions are often varied but in the end we all share similar passions for shooting.
