Just wondering these shooting coaches you talked to . How many of them are shooting non vent ribbed shotguns????
In fact next time you are at the club or a tournament try to find one other than maybe yours.
Like I say to each their own, it works for you great but that is not the norm. I had simmons fit two back in the day when we shot non vent ribbed and noticed a difference and have not heard anyone say they didnot pick up a few birds back then when we shot both styles.

My Sporting guns all have vent ribs I never said they were not vented -- hard to find a modern gun without one. I shot non vented guns in my early years of shooting clay games and from my experience vented never really made that much difference. I agree with the heat dispersal aspect of vent ribs -- all I'm saying is they are not necessary to shoot well and are not the end all be all. There are a lot of new & different fashionable things added to guns these days like ported barrels, various kings of very high ribs -- all makers touting new and improved-- all designed to sell more guns but we could probably do nicely without them.
Cheers.
