I know primers are hard to find right now, but are people really this desperate?

“1000 Remington No 9 1/2 Large Rifle primers
500.00 can deliver to Saskatoon

Todays latest addition to the greedy file. At least he is offering limited delivery!

How do I send a message to myself back four years. When Wholesale sports was closing in Nanaimo I asked for ten boxes of Remington lrp and they brought out ten cartons, I think I only got three cartons then but should have cleaned them out, 20/20 hindsight.

I will say that these $500+ per thousand prices for primers are really bringing more product to market. Guys that have been sitting on (don't call it hoarding) primers for the long term are finally entering the market and listing some for sale.

3 years ago Elwood Epps was selling Rem primers for $29/1000. Shipped to AB was under $40/1000 and I bought 20k. Should have bought 50k. Hindsight is always 20/20

Lots of people said the same thing when the price went from under $20 to $30

13 cents per round isn't going to break the wallet, nor is the extra cost of other components.

It's still way cheaper than even the cheapest commercial offerings right now and for the ''average'' handloader, 1k primers will last them a lifetime.

Yes, but it went from 70$ to 120$+ in one year. The way I see it, the problem is the people who are paying it.

I disagree. For some $120 is pocket change. The huge increase we have witnessed in the last few years still make financial sense to many. You have to remember that not everyone is as poor as we are. The blame for this increase lies with dealers and manufacturers. Probably mainly with dealers, but that's just a guess. The retailers cut is not that large so I don't blame them. My local gun shops sell primers for about $87. The online sellers have to hike up the prices a little more because people hate to pay shipping. The online guys in turn subsidise the shipping a bit at the cost of a small price increase.

Granted that there are lazy local only retailers that see the online prices and think that's a normal price.

Our local gunshops don't have primers marked up to especially high prices.

However, they do charge enough to make a living profit and still be able to afford to replace their stock once it sells. Any other practice just doesn't make good business sense.

People are willing to pay for what's available. If they're paying the hasmat fees on top of that then the price is likely much higher.

What would you pay for a case of beer, during a strike??? It's all the same

This isn't the first time we've seen this over the past few years.

It's really tough on people with limited budgets, who I often see at gun shows purchasing part boxes of bullets/primers/powder.

Then there are those that purchase a 100 count of primers, a 100 count of bullets and depending on the case capacities, just enough powder to load them.

One fellow I spoke with a few days ago told me that is his common method of what he calls stock piling.

Hey - there is a guy with some for sale now on Reloading components, here on gunnuts - for a very reasonable price - get at them! Colossal

I foolishly bought some off a store shelf just the other day - and come home to find that I really didn't need them, so they are on nutz for sale - and yes, I have above, been called greedy - but I want to know where the price really is now, I can get more now, but likely not for long. Really, I only want to get what they are worth, so if I advertise and sell them for cheap.... I never find out.

Maybe someday, cars and real estate and happiness will come at a price that we are willing to pay, but until then, we carry heavy burdens of financial and moral debt - even freedom is higher priced than we will agree to pay.

The bar has been set higher now, I am going to ignore the 1000 primers for $2000 guy as that was more of a plea for help. Now the latest is 1000 primers for $750 cash, no shipping.

A fellow that I know started into loading about 18 months ago, and I told him then to buy at least a brick of each large and small rifle primers. Of course he didn't listen, so this September, he asked me to sell him primers, and I told him where he could buy primers at $100/1000. Apparently, he still didn't listen, so today he calls and asks me again to sell him some primers. I told him that when primers get to $5000/1000, I will sell him a brick. I don't think that he will be calling again, to buy primers.

Been a few people trying to buy my primers. When I bought stuff ahead knowing there was a shortage coming I worried about myself not other people. They had a choice to buy when primers where available. I can’t understand these people that buy a hundred at a time and think they can get more anytime. I should be able to make it into mid 2024 before I’ll need primers.

When primer prices are at $1/primer level of stupid, anyone that wants to get into reloading has their ratio of 'brains to money' unbalanced. Unless you're reloading antique cartridges, just buy factory ammo. Smh.

Have seen brand name Large Rifle Magnum primers sell repeatedly for $450-$500 per 1000 on another site with better local indexing, wish that I was kidding.

Good thing I still have a brick and bit of Federal GM215M primers... Those are my only magnum rifle primers but I also have 4k S&B large rifle and 4k CCI 200 large rifle primers. Plus small rifle and pistol primers. All purchased at the old normal prices, BTW. $55 for a CCI brick. Heck, the S&B was on sale at less than $40/brick! 2019, I believe. I'll survive LOL.

It's not all about saving money. It's also about making better ammo than you can buy. Whether that's better accuracy or bullets that aren't offered in factory ammo. But I agree that 50 cents+ per primer is getting ridiculous.
