I want a 25-06

My advice would be to consider 24" barrel length as minimum to control velocity loss & muzzle blast. If I were to do it over again I would not purchase that browning A-bolt with a 22" barrel.

I was super set on a 25-06 in a Tikka t3 as my "laser beam rifle"... (as opposed to my 45/70 and sks) and the more research that I did I decided on a 6.5x55 instead. The bullet choices in .264 over .257 really got me interested. I can blast 95gr vmax's out pretty fast but do my hunting with 129gr :) I have about 6 boxes of 140 and 160gr bullets around too in case it ever seems like I need to.

If/when I buy a 30'06 based cartridge it will likely be a Whelen. That will fill a gap I have between 6.5x55 and 45/70

OP,
I have a Browning A-bolt Stainless Stalker (no boss) 25-06 topped up with a Leupold VXII 3x9x40. I have no issues with barrel length in this rifle. After some experimentation I'm using Federal Premium 115gr Nosler Partitions and getting sub-MOA all the time. For accuracy I find that it doesn't like to be hot and it doesn't like to be really clean. It is a hunting gun but on the range I prefer to wait a few minutes between shots and also give it one pass of a patch after a shot. That procedure really ties the group down tight.

What I really, really like is the 60 degree bolt throw and the heft of the solid stock.:D

Try one out if you can find one, but I think they are "out of print" so to speak.
The same rifle in X-bolt might be close to it but I have no experience there.

Let us know what you do and how it works out.:)

A7

Sako A7 (in 25-06 of course). Love mine to pieces. Laser flat and incredibly accurate. Mid range price. Nice trigger. You can get a stainless pkg with a Burris scope if that turns your crank.

I could probably lie and call it a five shot group but there were four of us shooting the same rifle, a Remington 700V in .25-06 at 200 metres. I thought it was three that I had shot but there are definitely four. The rifle likes the 115 Nosler BT.

I've posted it previously but my Savage 112BVSS 'likes' the Sierra 117gr SBT. Excuse the home made target.
