IDF M14 parts kits picture thread!

Finally got out to test fire number 2 build. regular profile barrel (sak) weather has not been good here. Started raining as soon as I got to my spot. Lower set was the first five out. The upper set I was concentrating and leaning against a stump. Bulk surplus ammo. Fired casings measured 1.6312

it fit my Vltor. i just had to grind down the barrel clamp under the handgaurd. it interfaces with the slot in the barrel, but the HB slot is shorter, and the clamp tries to grip the larger barrel radius.

Thanks... I'll pop my top rail off later and eyeball it, more worried about the oprod guide block fitting the tube than anything with the EBR, seems to be lots of room aside from that...

I just got my first build (std. barrel) back from m14medic, send out the med. barrel next. Digging through to boxes for my spare harris bipod and will mount the ARMS18 mount and scope this weekend.

What rings are you using for your scope? That cheek rest height will make it rather difficult with an arms 18 mount no? I'm using an arms mount myself and figured this would be an issue once I get the rifle built.

I am going to try Med or High and see how it works. I missed out on the 10 power Nimrod scopes so I will put a 2.5 to 10 power on it for now.

like45s....
I just dropped a arms 18 rifle in to a sniper stock and tried medium and high arms rings. Both were fine but I preferred the high.
Just my preference. hope that helps.

How does everyones barrel's look? Mines an H&R dated to 1960 by the looks of it, seems like its got some chrome peeling but I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking at, anything to be worried about?
EDIT: Added photo to get an idea

Whats the verdict with chrome pealing from the bore ? Apparently this is not measured with a throat erosion gauge, you need a bore scope.

Seems to be how these U.S.G.I. barrels wear - from what I've read it's nothing to worry about, though I'm no expert. These are used barrels, after all, though some are used less than others.

Threw it together today, need to dig out one of my usgi handguards and pain it up, usgi wood stock needs some TLC, also have to peen and epoxy the oprod guide as its loose and tighten up the gas system. But she already pings real nice when racked..... :)

^^^.. looks good!
You Just have to get out and test fire It. Put it on paper before and after you tighten the 2items to compare accuracy gains.

I made Wolverine aware of the barrel I pictured here and they agreed it was "excessive" wear and agreed on an exchange. Received the replacement barrel today and it still shows the same signs of wear just to a lesser degree. Figure it still has some life in it hopefully and maybe I'm overly cautious with my lack of experience so I'm going to send it into M14Medic (John) and see how it measures as I have no tools personally. Depending on his recommendation I may look into a new Criterion as I'm looking to make a decent shooter with this build. Didn't get the luck some others had but I got a TRW bolt out of it so there was some "gravy" on these mashed potatoes.

How many are going to use the idf stock? I have two and just can't bring myself to liking these things!! One parts kit std barrel will be used for my E2 other heavy barrel just not sure? Thinking of a build with another E2 stock more along the lines of a m21.

Yeah I ordered a Boyd's. Didn't want to but I made the executive decision last week. Can't get past the cheek riser.

I just finished up this build.

Its actually the first one I've assembled for myself as opposed to a customer! I re-used the IDF stock, after a whole butt-load of Fiberglass filler, Devcon used as bondo and a skim bed of the action to the receiver and then a fresh coat of paint.... And a custom hand made Cheek riser.... (I don't think I have a single customer who would be willing to pay the labour bill on the job!)

I still haven't made it out to the range at this point to try zero the irons and see how it shoots. I got hit with a massive head cold that morphed into a flu and the work is piling up!

For your viewing pleasure....

Nice USGI stock recovery there M14Medic.ca..... what a wonderful job you did. Now I might just pull apart my IDF precision stock. I appreciate the inspiring work you do on here.

Okay, I've unscrewed the cheek piece with 3/16" allen key. I managed to "hacksaw" off the resin/filler/glue the rubber perforated buttplate from the the doctored M14 buttplate and remove everything from the stock.... flathead screwdriver.

Then I replaced the buttplate with a spare buttplate assembly I had kicking around. Now the stock is almost USGI glass stock that feels kinda "normal"

John: How did you pry/force/wrench that forward/front sling swivel off ? I don't wanna mangle things up....

Also... I noticed your screw heads on the sling swivel plate need to be tactical'ized... Want me to send you a couple of socket head /button screws to the tune of 3/8" x #10 x 24 tpi that I show to my clients? Send me your address... ;)

Pictures will be up tomorrow.... :)

Cheers,

Barney
