If you could only have one 30cal

I would have to go with the OP...for just one rifle and 30 cal cartridge...
Marlin 336 in 30-30!

Used my grandfather's to take my first big game animal at 15...a whitetail doe.
Did use my Dad's '94 30-30 to take my first black bear, at 18.
Used my friend's Dad's BLR in 308 to take my first whitetail buck, at 21.
As a lefty, I have always loved the levers! Did not get my first left handed bolt action rifle until I was 30.
While I love the BLR (my 358 gets used a lot!) for the detachable magazine and ability to use spitzers...and a little more reach and energy...nostalgia will win out for the Marlin!
Of all the animals I have harvested over the past 35 years, the average distance has been 136 yards, so the 30-30 will work just fine, with proper bullet placement! (although it is not legal for bison in BC, and would not be my first choice for grizzly bear)
And I also have a custom LH Remington 700 in 300 WSM that is a great performing rifle, but again, nostalgia will win out for the Marlin!

It's not that I don't like 30, but more I guess I have no need for one. I do not hunt, have little interest in shooting beyond 100 or so yards, and I'm cheap, so 5.56mm or 9mm are my go to CF rounds...

With those parameters you should just stick with .22 LR.

My Kimber Adirondack in 308 , light maneuverable a joy to carry and deadly accurate , have many 308 rifles including win mod 88 in rifle and carbine models and they are also a joy but wood and blued and require lots of luv in ####ty weather

After thinking it over for a bit, I would pick my Winchester pre-'64 .30-30. Being a 7mm & 9.3mm fan, the .308 and .30/06 are kind of redundant. There's nothing the mid- .30's can do that I can't do as well if not better with the metrics. The model 94 at least has some justification for it's existence as being a short, slim & light rifle for just packin' around.

I’ve already got her, a kimber 84l Montana in 30-06. The only other .30 in my stable is a .308 marlin express because I like levers and needed the pigeon pair to my 338 marlin express. There isn’t much I don’t have covered with that ‘06.

Anschutz 1781 D FL German stock in .30/06;

Reminds me of my 1574 in .308. Not exactly the same but the family resemblance is there.

For 1 30 cal my choice would be .300 Win. If there can only be one; and the purpose is hunting it'll be something that got scared spit-less by a Model 70. Might as well be a Darcy Echols. The sale of the others can fund it.

If its just for target shooting it would be a .308 by default, since my game is FTR. If it was open and had to be a 30 caliber; more than likely a WSM. Since it has to shoot; it'll be on something scared spit-less by a M700. Might as well be the Barnard I already have; but could be one of the other clones. It wouldn't be a Remington.
