Today I finally got through on the phone to the guys at 762mmfirearms in the states. Those guys are DAMN BUSY. Talked to them on the phone for a spell and they are overflowing with USGI contracts for spares.
I would have thought the US Gov would have plenty of spares, but I guess they must have junked most of that stuff under Clinton because they are certainly ordering a lot of stuff new now.
Anyhow, I digress. They must have an export license, because I had no problem at all ordering up a complete new manufacture USGI gas cylinder assembly by mail ($138 plus shipping!!!). These are the real ones being supplied to the the US ARMY as spares for service and EBR M14's.
In fact, they ship to Canada all the time, he said. I asked and he said they had all the appropriate export permits and file all necessary paperwork on the US side, and what Canada Customs does is my problem.
Oh well, I don't mind paying duty and tax to get good parts.
Very surprised. I thought for sure I'd get hammered with the usual Fulton Armory type BS or the $100 limit problem.
For those interested, they also sell separate trigger group parts, so you could, for example, order just a USGI trigger, hammer and sear for a Norinco group, or any combination of parts, or even just the housing.
Will report back on quality when the stuff arrives. I went with the USGI options aside from the piston, which I ordered in titanium nitrate coating.
