intersting conversation with the Remington guys today

700Ps, LTRs, SPS Tacticals, Savage LE series, along with anything in any military caliber current or from the past, in either military caliber or civilian equivalent, foreign or domestic, regardless of action type.
This was as of Oct 2 2008:mad:

If this is true, it will effectively kill all exports of hunting rifles from the U.S.

The only exception for deer hunting would be rifles chambered for .270 Winchester.

Canada might be a small market for U.S. gun manufacturers but eliminating the entire world for exports might put a dent in those companies' profitability. All at a time when their economy is collapsing.

This regulation is aimed at Tier 2 countrys which Canada falls into

I wonder if the next step is no export of ammo for these calibers? They already do this with 7.62x39 and 50BMG:mad:

Have not heard anything on that yet.
Did hear that Obama wants to slap a 500% excise tax on ammo and guns, currently it is 11% and a voluntary tax by the gun and ammo makers to help support hunting/conservation. This has been in effect since the 1940s, I wonder what he has planned for all that additional tax money??????????
I somehow doubt it is going to be used to further hunting and conservation.

Does this also mean that American hunters are no longer allowed to "export" their .308 or .30-06 rifles when they travel to Canada for a hunting trip? I would think that would be noticed by a few voters south of the border.

I am VERY interested in finding this answer out. Something else I'm concerned about is whether I could ever move back to Canada and bring them with me.

Those would be covered under a "temporary export" so "should" not be affected. I say should as I don't know positively. Women are easier to second guess than governments, especially the DOS.

Some of the Tier 1 "crime control" (which is politically correct for nations known to be homes to terrorists) countries include
Canada, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Ireland, most of the middle east, parts of the former Soviet block, Cuba, most of Africa, some of the South American countries, I just can't remember which off hand .......

Looks like we are going to be buying European from now on. The Europeans build much better quality products anyway. Also what about encouraging some Canadian manufacturers like Dlask. I wonder is any US manufcaturers will think about setting small production facilities outside the country to satisfy the needs of their other markets. Both Weatherby and Browning have plants in Japan.

Elcans are built by a US company and most elcans are built in the US

You sure of that? I know Andy Webber (Armament Technology) gets most of his out of Ontario if I'm not mistaken. He's the North American distributor for the military line of scopes. Or, at least he was the last time I'd talked to him.

A friend of mine works for Raytheon and although Elcan is a US subsidiary, he tells me that "ALL" Elcan product is made in Canada in Midland, even the ranging systems for the Abrams tanks.
