Have not heard anything on that yet.
Did hear that Obama wants to slap a 500% excise tax on ammo and guns, currently it is 11% and a voluntary tax by the gun and ammo makers to help support hunting/conservation. This has been in effect since the 1940s, I wonder what he has planned for all that additional tax money??????????
I somehow doubt it is going to be used to further hunting and conservation.

I am VERY interested in finding this answer out. Something else I'm concerned about is whether I could ever move back to Canada and bring them with me.

Those would be covered under a "temporary export" so "should" not be affected. I say should as I don't know positively. Women are easier to second guess than governments, especially the DOS.

Some of the Tier 1 "crime control" (which is politically correct for nations known to be homes to terrorists) countries include
Canada, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Ireland,most of the middle east, parts of the former Soviet block, Cuba, most of Africa, some of the South American countries, I just can't remember which off hand .......

Looks like we are going to be buying European from now on. The Europeans build much better quality products anyway. Also what about encouraging some Canadian manufacturers like Dlask. I wonder is any US manufcaturers will think about setting small production facilities outside the country to satisfy the needs of their other markets. Both Weatherby and Browning have plants in Japan.

You sure of that? I know Andy Webber (Armament Technology) gets most of his out of Ontario if I'm not mistaken. He's the North American distributor for the military line of scopes. Or, at least he was the last time I'd talked to him.

Andy does and still is the North American distributor but Elcan is a US based Subsidiary of The Raytheon group of companies

A friend of mine works for Raytheon and although Elcan is a US subsidiary, he tells me that "ALL" Elcan product is made in Canada in Midland, even the ranging systems for the Abrams tanks.
