IPSC Ontario must be doing so well that it turns away new members

I have to say.. things seem quite different in IPSC Ontario since I last got my BB back in early 2000's. I've been looking to get back into it IPSC, and redo my BB course. the problem is that no matter what I do IPSC Ontario seems to make it as hard a possible to join.

1) There are no BB courses listed on the IPSC site (links to BB courses goes to a 404 error)
2) The "email the bb coordinator" went nowhere without a response back in 2 weeks
3) I've filled out the Contact sheet and sent it in.. again no contact back
4) looking at the various club sites few if any list anything about IPSC never mind hosting a course at their club.

Whats a guy got to do to join IPSC??

Sadly the only place I see the BB courses listed is in the IPSC Ontaraio calendar, that you have to be a member in order to see. I've shared this info with some people I know who are interested and they have gotten on to the courses. The next one coming up is at Urban Tactical in Brantford Mar 21-22. PM me if you want the organizer's email address.

I know in Alberta, any previous member just need to do the mini-match at the end of the BB to prove competence.

Many came back into the game that way.

As a volunteer organization sometimes emails get out of hand.
As a match director at a bigger club, replying to emails/text about build crew can drive me up the wall!

Don't be afraid to send an extra email or two. It is always the intention to reply, but we also have lives outside of our volunteer work!

I think the next two BB courses at Urban Tactical are full already. I believe there will be another in April that hasn't been posted yet. They will tell you about it and you could probably sign up for that one if you call them but do it soon!

Clique mentality.

They should be trying to expand aggressively. Getting thousands of new members into the sport not only helps our cause, it helps their bottom line.

Let me know when you have built the hundreds of ranges to support the matches for the thousands of new members. I agree it would help out our cause for sure.

No doubt Storm, there are not enough matches now to support the Ontario membership and more and more people that have been helping out are getting burned out and all the new people coming in just want to shoot and Scoot!

Was out for over 20 years, contacted Kent Hill was told when next course was in my area and to bring my gun and ammo when they were doing the practical part of the course, jumped in with them for that and a little more advanced stuff when they went to lunch and was done. Shot next available match and was good to go.

As I have said in my BB Courses for the past few years.

Far too many people are PANDAs

" Eats, Shoots and Leaves"

So...

As one of the current directors of IPSC Ontario, what did you do to improve this situation?

And as the current BB coordinator of IPSC Ontario, is it your strategy to limit number of new members, make it as difficult as possible for members to join or not respond to requests regarding BB courses?

WOW are you bitter.

I'm not. I find above response from stormbringer hypocritical. He isn't exactly an iconic example and I've seen him walking out from the worker's squad (e.g. at MIC).

It is easy to blame members, which is just a finger-pointing in context of this thread, and it is more critical for the organization where stormbringer is one of the directors to get to the bottom of issue. Besides, original poster isn't even a member.

IPSC ON is Canada's largest section with probably the least amount of access to ranges. They're a victim of their own success. I believe they're also going through a period of change over and transition among their executive. I understand your frustration but continue to try and contact them and someone will get back to you. Perhapse you'd have more luck at the club level? There must be an IPSC club in your region with a Black Badge instructor who can explain the current process for registering for a BB re-certification.
DVC,
Trevor

Black Badge courses are pretty much always sold out before they get posted.
You need to know someone on the inside, in order to get into a course.

The best thing to do is find out which ranges near you have an IPSC section.
Then talk to someone from that group, and find out who is in charge of the group.

The guy in charge of that IPSC group will likely know someone who is running Black Badge courses occasionally.

So then you can get in touch with the guy who runs Black Badge courses at that particular club.
And you get him to put you on his waiting list for his next course, when/if he decides to do one.

Repeat this process for as many clubs as you can. Get on as many lists as you can.
Eventually someone will contact you, and ask if you want to sign up for their course.

Looks like finding first job.
