Hey guys
I have a question about 7.62x39. Basically I want to know is surplus 7.62x39 going to remain readily available and inexpensive for the next 5 or so years? The reason I ask is because it looks like none of the stores in the Vancouver area still carry 7.62x39 surplus in large crates. I am considering buying a sks but if the ammo is not affordable I would decided against it.

All input is much appreciated thanks guys!

Cold War surplus seems to be drying up, I mean there's still a lot of out there but its not necessarily available for import.

Once the surplus is gone then 7.62x39 doesn't really have an advantage over .223/5.56 as far as the price of new production ammo goes.

Lots of x39 around, it is expensive, corrosive, steel, burdan primed, old, goes bang, dirty, stinky !! Did I miss anything? and yes, this thread comes up at least once a week!

Buy it cheap( sort of cheap) stack it deep! The sks today aren't as nice as the one 15 years ago but buy while you can,,, bottom of barrel now!!!

Lever Arms has a bunch of Chinese surplus in stock plus sks rifles
They have a combo package for a gun plus crate of ammo
If your in Vancouver go pay them a visit and you can hand select your rifle to be sure you get a decent one

I was a bit surprised when I checked around the internet for prices on case lots of this stuff; I was listing a couple cases and wanted to know what they were going for. Not nearly as much available as the last time I purchased.

My first thought was "There's going to be a panic on CGN any second now..." :)

Hey guys :)
Thank you so much for all your input. I will definitely be checking out Lever Arms. I have 2 more questions why did cabelas, reliable gun, and most other stores run out of surplus ammo when Lever Arms did not? Lastly do you guys think it is still worth it to buy an sks based upon the ammo prices going up?

Thanks again guys!

Maybe they had more stock? Higher prices? Who knows. All ammo will increase in price. 7.62x39 is still relatively cheap. I paid $50 for the cheapest 20 count box of 45/70.

I think lever arms imports their own stuff and the other places like crappy tire and cabelas gets product from North Sylva. So if NS is out of stock they all are
