Issues With BC Chief Firearms Officer

After reading your post I called them. As they were on June 6th and I put in June 1st. I asked what might be the problem. He said call in a few days. So I thought what ever. Decided to go right to the office. I explained what was going on and handed him the copy of my application. He asked me if I had a few minutes? No problem I said. He returned a short time later with my long and 2 shorts. Done deal. Finanally. So I don't know where you live but if it's doable just go there with your app. w:h:

Address???

I am in the same boat. It is my first hand gun, and I have been waiting since June 26. I was expecting a 4-5 day turn around as that is what I was told during my PAL course, I was also told that by the salesman at the store where I purchased it. I just love spending money on stuff just to let it sit at the store for almost a month.

Yup, June 22nd for me. Laid out $3k for a couple of new toys and still waiting.

I'm in Prince George. I am going to be down there next weekend, but only the Saturday and Sunday which is also a little frustrating. I figure I am just going to have to call 2-3 times a week and fax my range membership in at least weekly :D At the very least it will start to tick somebody else off.

Applied june 26
it is my first LTATT
Spoke to someone today July 31, and I was told that they are working on the stuff from June 20th right now. With any luck, I should be able to pick up my gun in another week or two. And for now, I will continue to enjoy my time in gun nut purgatory :bangHead:

Just so y'all know.... don't forget ANYTHING when you submit LTATT paperwork, even if that means you "forget" all of your paperwork because some nit-wit at the BC office apparently misplaced your LTATT paperwork that was faxed in at the exact same time as the transfer from the dealer.

They lost mine, I phoned in the info, faxed in my membership.... TA DA! Bottom of the pile. I get to play the waiting game all over again. From everything I've been told and the paperwork I received it looks like they attempted to process the transfer on June 29th for a June 19 submission, but because they lost the damn LTATT paperwork I've been waiting for 6 weeks.

On another note, I was told they are now working on paperwork from the "end of June", whatever date that may be.

Hey, left coasters, have a taste of ontario (or quebeque).

edit to add:
However, the reason for the delays seems to be
the reduced number of personnel
and apparently it is not Terry Hamilton's fault.

Hey, left coasters, have a taste of ontario (or quebeque).

My understanding was that in Ontario and Quebec restricted transfers and LTATTs were still usually approved within 1-2 weeks. In BC 4-6 weeks is now normal.

And even if my understanding is incorrect, we used to have 1-5 day transfers and LTATTs. I see no reason we shouldn't demand a return to that.

While it may not be Terry Hamilton's "fault," it is completely her responsibility. The problem may have come about because of forces outside her control, but it is entirely her responsibility to fix the problem. She has had several months to do that, and so far she has failed.

If she doesn't have enough personnel, then she needs to either hire more or find new ways of becoming more efficient. If she is barred from hiring more and can reasonably show that hiring more people is the only way to return to reasonable processing times, then it is her responsibility to make that clear.

In short, because it is her responsibility the burden of proof is on her to prove that she doesn't have the authority to fix the problem.

Is anyone else thinking we should start a petition to have Terry Hamilton replaced?

Petition to remove this clown and demand PROMPT service and SET maximum time limits for transfers, none of this throw it in a back box for over a month crap.

Business transfers are done in 1-4 days as we see, private sales are being thrown into infinity waiting time.

FIVE business days maximum for restricted transfers, there is no LOGICAL or acceptable reason at all for any longer delay when it is just matter of key strokes and mouse clicks to approve a transfer.

This is completely fair time allowance, if anyone disagrees then by all means come forwards and speak up.

In my opinion, transfers should be automatic if done online. There is no reason a computer couldn't do all the needed checks (for valid licenses, etc.) within seconds.

I just sold 3 restricteds in the EE. Two went to Ontario and were approved within days. The other went to BC and took over 3 weeks. Crazy.

.

Mine was a dealer purchase, still coming on 7 weeks. I suppose it would've been ten days had they not lost the paperwork.

8 days is good service, really? If these people worked for the private sector they would be looking or work!! If it took me 8 days to get what a client wanted, I'd be looking for work!!
