Killing raccoons in the city - Toronto

There was an episode of Wingfield Farm in which Walt's neighbour, a sweet little old lady, described at length how to humanely live-trap a coon, and finished with "and then you beat it to death with a shovel". I'm not sure if it was the same neighbour, but someone also told him the best way to dispose of the carcass. Just leave it on the road and the road crew will pick it up for you, but don't leave too many in the same spot.

Living in the country for most of my life , I have killed them many ways . If I moved to city ( heaven forbid) I would certainly
use a live trap & then the water barrel method .

Trick being, the barrel has to be big enough to submerge the entire live trap.

I live in a semi rural area. 2 years I caught 11 of those bandits. A ten minute drive to anywhere and let them go. The Don Valley is in the middle of the city. Let them go down at the old brickyards.

Here's the thing in Ontario. A home owner can lave trap a nuisance animal. A home owner can dispatch a trapped animal provided it is done humanely. In a city with discharge bylaws there is no way to legally do it humanely. The home owner would have to basically take it somewhere that they can legally shoot it.

If a home owner decides to hire an animal/pest control company to remove the animal, unless the employee is a licensed trapper, they are required by law to release it alive within 1 km of where it was trapped.

For the OP you basically have 2 options. 1. Trap it, drive it somewhere and shoot it. 2. Hire a company to remove it and hopefully it doesn't make its way back.

Just got in from chasing a coon down the laneway. All I had was a broom, lol. I've never been so unarmed before.. plus i'm out of shape.

Possums supposedly eat ticks. Lots of ticks.
Have someone run a weed whacker or lawn mower outside while you put a .22bb cap or CCI quiet segmented through the coon’s skull. Minimal penetration. Garbage bag to transport it somewhere else. Rural ditch or drop it on a street and drive over the carcass a couple of times so it looks like road kill. Hope nobody’s got security cameras watching... which makes rural a better option.
