Kodiak defence SKS-KD

You have not seen the price of Type 81 yet. I heard from people in Europe that they are selling it for 1800.00 Euro. How much will it be in Canada? This one has the same AK mag pinned to 5 :) Rail system and muzzle break threaded ( I think this future attracts me to have this rifle in my safe) Over all Kodiak is doing what everyone wants when they change rifle from surplus to all the upgrades. Price wise I think if you put all the parts and labor cost that went into building it. You pay less

Cost of SKS (right now, I am sure everyone has seen that prices went up)
Modifying Gun -- ???
AK mag ?? (just try to import one)
Rail system???
Stock ATI ??
Threaded muzzle break ???

I have contacted Kodiak and preorder those 10 pcs to see it.

Click on the link below to preorder it

SKS -> $225
Modifying gun -> ???
AK mag -> average price I paid for metal ones are $35
Rail system -> $80
ATi stock -> $100?
Muzzle break -> $25?

Ehhhh how cheap could I get one with no rail system, no muzzle break, no ati stock?

I think those would sell better

I agree this is like trying to sell a civic covered in rice rocket parts from Walmart, a base model would sell more units much more quickly when you're not trying to sell a popular item to a much smaller niche market. But the AK mag is quite a bit wider than the SKS mag. The Norinco SKS-D had a steel liner installed in a stock that was slightly different in the magwell area. And a wooden magwell isn't a great idea. That would be the only problem I could see. But man, an affordable Russian SKS-D with the only mod being the magazine system? And without having to buy a bunch of cheap junk I don't want? That's what will sell.

SKS-M and SKS-MC5D have just wood in the mag well. No issues from mine.

I'd totally grab a AK mag SKS for $350

if it came exactly like you said and original stock, I'd be in.

Haters gonna hate, Purists gonna criticize... they rant when someone modifies an SKS to hold a scope, or cuts off unnecessary parts. But yet applauds somebody who modifies one to hold AK mags.:rey2

a base model would sell more units much more quickly

This is a ‘value added’ strategy for the builder. The ATI stock retails for $100 let's say, but they are not paying retail for 500 units from ATI.

Cutting and threading the muzzle is a $100 let's say proposition from a gunsmith shop, but they are using a bulk in-house 'smith.

Add them to a gun that let's say is worth $350 without it, gives the impression of a $550 value. But every step adds profit. So why would they want to sell you a bare-bones upgrade?

I'm well aware of the strategy however if you read my post you can see I'm not interested in the extras so they detract from the value for me. If I have to buy hundreds of dollars worth of stuff I don't want then the value is detracted from. Instead of a $700 rifle that I want, its a much less valuable rifle that I have to pay $700 to get. The value is only added to if the extras are something the buyer wants. That means serious buyers interested in this rifle have to want the extras in order to justify the cost. Smaller market. A bare bones SKS with the conversion could be customized however the buyer sees fit. For the same reason bare bones SKS sell much faster on the EE than the tacticool ones that get bumped until the seller finally accepts an offer much lower than the cost to build the rifle. Smaller market, tougher sell. The "added value" does nothing for sales excpt to those looking for what was added.

Dont normal sks-D's average 700 bucks to begin with? I dont see the problem with the kodiak's "sks-D" price point?

That's what I was thinking too....the ATI stock, rail and threaded muzzle are a bonus. Its a better value than the SKS-D IMO.

I will help you there you missing some info.
And also we are talking retail price , buying from retail store or gunsmith. Your pick.

SKS -> $225 ($230-$269) nowdays and yes you can find one here and there for $200 but they sell for 230 and up
Modifying gun ->$160
AK mag -> average price I paid for metal ones are $35 I am looking to bring some in and hoping to fit it into $40 CAD
Rail system -> $80 This is from other producer that sell them here and on special original $139 but we will put it at 120 ($120)
ATi stock -> $100? $150 Tapco and Archangel as far as $190
Muzzle break -> $25? I will leave it at that , do not know how much it cost. 30 min of labor is about right that you going to get charged at gunsmith

Now to answer your question:
SKS-$230
Modifying a gun-$160
Magazine $40
Total: $430 without rail
Somewhere there.

I would add rail just so I have ability to shoot with scope.$120
That would make it :$550 with rail

I took all the prices from other dealers that sponsors here.
Added all up guess what I got? $700!

:)

I'll wait until these start popping up on the EE in the $500ish range to pick one up. $500-$600 I don't think is too bad a price for one of these.

They may be listed at that in the EE, but I doubt many sell for over $500, or any for over $600
