Legal 8.5" 6.5" Rem 870 w/ Pistol Grip

Just to add,
The ruling is a little complex and varies between pistol grips and folders as well as Restricted and Prohibited. Read those definitions and know exactly what the rules are before you start sticking different bits on your gun, call the CFC firearm techs if you need help ;)

BTW: There are more than one of them floating around, I have had mine for a couple of weeks now, they are a blast! I also have correspondence from CFC to verify the fact.

It looks just like the Serbu Super Shorty!.
The SSS is my favorite shotgun, I envy you. I wonder if we could get any Serbu's up here?.

very interesting :D :D

I have a 14" barrelled remington that right now wears a Knoxx Breacher's grip which I put on to ensure I was over 26". Looks like I needn't have worried. Will now have to put a pistol grip on my 8.5 incher. next question is - will I have to get it reregistered using 1 FRT # for the pistol gripped configuration, and another FRT# for the long stocked version -or just not bother, since the class doesn't change, nor does even the barrel length subcategory.?

Or, look into getting a 6.5 incher from Dlask (since there is a 2 round limit in Ontario for the tube anyway), get a holster, and go hunting grouse/deer this Fall with my unrestricted long gun:D :D (since the 8.5 incher produces 1250 FPS, should still get 1190 FPS with a 6.5 incher- very viable)The mind boggles -and my credit card is quivering in anticipation of the pain already....

Okay,

I'm definitely down for one of those! :dancingbanana: Should be a real ##### to shoot, but LCF is though the roof! :D Definitely a great addition to carry while fly fishing this Summer or bear hunting in the fall. I wonder will Gatehouse finally abandon his spear?:D

Called, confirmed... 8.5" are coming soon (6.5" on hold for now... may not get made); 3+1 capacity (2 3/4")
Already forget price but =<$900 for complete piece.

I asked if any grip can be installed, yes, as long as it is from a manufacturer and a real pistol grip; not a modified rifle stock. So, you don't need to keep the default stock.

Pretty F-In cool! 10rnd AR Mags, Tavors and now 8.5" Non-Restricted Shotgun pistols!!!

Is the end of the world coming or what??

Ok so your telling me that I could install a say 12.5 or 14 inch factory barrel on my 870 LE folder and it would still be legal?.

So.... everyone here applies for a Type 2 ATC (wilderness pistol carry) for bear/cougar defence, and when we get turned down, we reply:
"No problem, i'll be carrying one of these instead!
AND I DONT HAVE TO GET YOUR PERMISSION FIRST!"

14" yes. 12.5" No. You need to maintain an OAL of 26"
Ok Thanks, I was just a little confused as I was thinking that because it was a factory barrel it wouldent become restricted, but I guess I was wrong.
So the deal is that the shotgun has to be manufactured by a company or gunsmith with the short barrel and under 26 inches overall already.
Then afterwards you can put on any pistol grip or stock that your heart desires so long as it was also a factory made part?.

JohnC, check your provincial regs, in BC this gun is classed as a handgun in the BC Hunting Regs becasue the barrel is less than 12" and therefor I cannot hunt deer with it....funny enough according to their definition it is classed as a handgun even with the full stock. I am looking into it.

Hmm..Maybe check that out..In the regulations synopsis 2007 (not the wildlife Act) it says "no person shal hunt wildlife wiht a handgun"

They used to have a definition of a handgun in the regs, and IIRC it was "A gun intended to be fired wiht one hand" or similar..

Can someone explain how this is not now a handgun? I'm just not getting this.... this current interpretation of the act just doesn't make sense  It would be great if it is correct but I just don't see how this can be. Is a single shot contender pistol now not a handgun anymore, or the remingtion bolt action pistols just a short rifle? This is weird :onCrack:

Thanks Gatehouse, I meant synopsis. The current 2006/07 BC synopsis (page 3 Definitions) defines handgun as:

Handgun – is a firearm that is designed, altered or intended to be aimed and fired by the action of one hand or that has a barrel less than 305 mm (12 in.) in length.

I always wonder about laws like that...Will *thier* definiton of a"handgun" stand up in court?

I guess if youare carrying it for bear defense- You aren't hunitng wiht it, so it's legal:)

the gun is not made to be aimed and fired with one hand, usually your other hand will still be on the pump mechanism as that is the way the firearm is designed to be fired..... can it be fired one handed ?? yes, but so can any hunting rifle.

This is no different then an 18" pistol grip shotgun that some carry for bear protection. The barrel is shorter but that does not change the physics of the firearm.
