Legal 8.5" 6.5" Rem 870 w/ Pistol Grip

Keep in mind your shotgun can be seized and held by the RCMP if they decided that there has been some error in your registration.

Non-restricted is still an OAL of 26", and your average beat cop will have even less knowledge on the firearms act then most of us.

to my mind it's not designed to be aimed and fired with 1 hand, but with 2 - otherwise it would be restricted. so it's a short shotgun -that's all. I don't thinks the legal mavens at the Ontario MNR have thought about it. and it would be nice- although possibly naive to expect -if they were not alerted to this fact - or had it rubbed in their face -by a bunch of wannabe questions to Ontario MNR offices from people who don't own one, with a few of these -no offence intended -being asked by people will never have the sand to get one on spec but in true Canadian fashion, want eveybody else to lug around 7 or 8 pounds and 30 inches of brush -catching steel and wood like they do.

Too many people want to pretend they are lawyers on the internet. Manufacturer says its non-restricted, it is. If the status changes you will get a letter in the mail because you have it registered to you.

must have

When all the dust settles, and the legalities are locked in, CGN members need to be alerted and in turn need to support the minds that made this VERY cool creation possible. Start saving your loonies and toonies, boys!!:D :shotgun: :canadaFlag:

Any shotgun with no stock is as useless as useless gets. A shotgun with an 8.5" barrel is even more useless. If it's under 26" it's prohibited.

supporting paper not count?

Supporting paper work not count? You ever fire a 8.5 inch 12 g? I have not but I can't wait it may or may not be a great thing. But at least people are trying to make a difference by doing something.

One of these days, I am thinking I should start a "prohib all shotguns with a barrel length greater than 28"". After all, no one needs them, other than those clay murdering scumbags I see at the range all the time. And after all, do we really want them to represent us lawabiding gun owners? We will exempt Claybuster as he is cool. :D Other than that, I want the heads on a pike!

Thanks.

The exemption should apply to all the CGN clay shooters (except Henry.)

Assuming that this interpretation stands, and is not rescinded, a number of interesting possibilities emerge. As long as the resulting firearm is not intended to be fired with one hand, similar firearms could be created from most any longarm. Basically this interpretation allows two handed "pistolization" of any shoulder arm.

Only if those stocks (grips) and short barrels are commercially manufactured and can be purchased off the shelf. If I have read everything correctly, the stock and barrel must come from a commercial manufacturer and not be modified versions of other commercially available parts.... no?

The Savages were marketed as pistols, for hg metallic silhouette competition. The pictured ones from the US seem to have shortened rifle stocks, which would not meet the Cdn. standard.
I think that this interpretation has opened a can of worms for the CFC. Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't try to get the lid back on.
As far as short barrelled shoulder arms are concerned, is there any reason that a factory original XP100 barrel could not be installed on a 600, 700, or 7 receiver? Should be fine with the original stock as long as the oal is 26+".
