How are these guns holding up? I'm debating getting one in .223 and .308 but haven't found many long term or high round count reviews. Anyone using either model in the frozen north during the winter? The .308 would be a bush gun that could see use as a defensive gun against bears so reliability is crucial.
Ok just changed the PAR to a 16" Melonite 7.62x39 from ARP..(Ar15performance.com). Now that I know how to disassemble the Alpha rail the switch over from the 30 HAR took only 20 mins, easy peasy. Cycles perfectly with snap & dummy rounds and I will follow up with a range report very shortly.

What's everyone using as a sling mount. Specifically the rear Quick Detach hole. I tried a magpul QD and it's not a tight enough fit . It pops out under the lightest pressure.
SQR your base gun was in 300 blackout correct? That would be pretty awesome in 762x39.
I wonder if they will ever make them in pistol calibers.

It can handle the 458 with some modifications to the ejector port. The ammunition power needs to be reduced because there is no gas system to bleed gas, it's now like a bolt gun. Nothing will break if you gradually work up your reloads. As with any custom work the Warranty is thrown out the window.
The 14.5" is the shortest length with this Alpha rail.
Handled a PAR but didn't shoot it. Wasn't sure what to think about it at first but I'm warming up to it.
If I pick one up would want to make it as light as possible. Remove rail covers, Mission First Tactical minimalist stock, maybe a compact red-dot. Would make a good modern day "scout" rifle, Cooper be damned.

I have really enjoyed mine for what little time I have had it for. I find semi auto rifles to be finicky with accuracy when precision shooting, and not necessary for hunting. I also really like the 16" barrel length. It is the ideal sized rifle for me since I do some bush pushing with my hunting rifles strapped onto my pack. It comes out perfectly flush with the top of my pack which means minimal hangups. I think the Troy PAR is right on the money for what I want, but since I am going back to hit the books again for my second degree it will have to go on the chopping block for now.
Don't underestimate these rifles just because they are pump action. They are awesome. Accurate, reliable, compact, cool. What more do you want?

Start with the .308 version and then trade for the .223 version
You could start by changing the barrel to a 16"-14" light profile barrel. That is the only thing I can think of that would be significant.
Wise guy I see. If it get one it will be .308. You're probably right about the barrel.

I would like to put a basic A2 fixed buttstock on a 308 PAR. I know there is not much function to them but I think it would be a nice look. Does anyone know if the A2 ar15 stock assembly will fit since there is no buffer system required for this rifle. I already have a spare one for the ar15 or do I need to buy the stock assembly that is made to work on a 308 ar? I understand there are differences between the two but I'm not exactly sure what the differences are. Just wondering before I start dropping cash. Thanks

An A2 Buttstock will bolt up directly to the 308 PAR, as it uses a standard buffer extension!

Just put one on the scales for you guys - 3.75kg / 8.25lbs on the dot without magazine or iron sights.
8lbs is pretty standard for a 308AR, as driller212 mentions, but you could save some weight by swapping the stock out - the Troy Tomahawk stock for example would bring the weight down by a 1/3 of a pound instantly.

Just an update on triggers: I put an ALG ACT trigger in mine with the heavier of the 2 hammer springs that it comes with. Works perfectly, no light primer strikes. It's not a Trigger Tech or Geissele but it's way nicer than stock.
