Update on my somewhat pimped out Troy PAR:

Thanks to a number of forum sponsors (CSC, Nordic Marksman, Rampart) it's finally exactly where I want it. The Warden helps greatly with concussion vs the Warcomp underneath but does generate an impressive fireball.

The Docter on the Elcan OS is brand new and hasn't even been sighted in. Nice setup and altogether much cheaper than the 1-4 Elcan.

Going to Aervoe the hell out of it in the spring.

At the moment I have a pen spring in there but that makes me a bit uncomfortable for the longer term. Will report back once I have springs in hand and can confirm they are compatible.

How many coils did the coil clippers chop off their springs?

Believe it or not I’m rocking the spring out of a pen in my slide release. Works 100% so far. Plus I still have the stock I modified spring.
 
Question for the guys that have swapped out their barrels. I'm thinking of picking up a .308 PAR soon. I've built a few AR's, is it the same idea? Other than plugging the gas port.
 
here is mine, just finished.

modifications and add-ons:

- 10.5'' 5.56 barrel (it was 300blk)
- Machined ring to cover the gas port
- A kind of Noveske muzzle device from True north arms
- Stock was pinned
- ALG Defense Combat Trigger-ACT
- 45 degree ambi safety
- Ergo grip
- Bushnell TRS red dot with UTG riser
- no name AFG

For anyone thinking of using a carbine length gas system barrel, instead of a machined sleeve or welding the gas port I discovered that a size 9 mens ring will pretty much fit exactly on a .750 (nominally - actually a bit less usually) gas block sized barrel. Chilled the barrel in the freezer and used some red loctite on it as well and it seems to be holding up just fine.

Got a cheap ring off amazon with free next day delivery with prime for like $9 or something. Cheaper and quicker than a trip to the gunsmith and completely reversible.

You do need to trim the pump screws a bit, but only the forward one on each of the three sets.

Ummm. That was my post you posted to reply to my other post.....

The $9 ring is working mostly, but every time I clean the barrel it takes a few mags to block up properly again and I get splatter on my face (lefty). Something more effective is what I'm looking for.
 
Just install a gas block backwards which will restrict the gas plugging the hole. Once this carbon is baked on you can remove the block for lightning.

It cost me 25$ from a local machinist. You cannot use a std gas block backward with a 10.5'' barrel, it interfere with the pump mecanism.
 
It seems that True North Arms now has 10.5" 300 Blackout barrels too, so maybe ballistically and shooter comfort-wise that's a better option for the SBR-style builds, ammo availability and cost aside.

Another thing I've been reading about SBR-specific 223 ammo such as the Hornady 75 grain stuff. Supposed to reduce flash, noise, and concussion for the very short barrels. The ammo is not cheap, but I'd imagine 3-4 boxes are enough for one to verify the functionality and then set aside.
