Let's see some pic's of your SxS's & O/U's

Just exquisite (but not ostentatious :)) What a classy couple of guns. You must be a happy guy! Congrats on those two. The checkering on the Winchester and the toe and heel pates are just next level!

J.P. Clabrough I picked up from Sean McGuire. He refinished the barrels and did some minor stock work. I think it is somewhere in the 1890's as it has a 8### range serial number but not sure. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet so I haven't even measured the chokes, but I can't wait to cook up some BP loads for it this upcoming spring! 30" barrels and handles like a dream....

Nice Clabrough. I have 4 Clabroughs, 3 with damascus barrels and Sean has refinished 2 of them. All told Sean has refinished 6 sets of damascus barrels for me. I have been pleased each time.

Thanks! What loads do you use in your damascus guns? Care to recommend a load for clays and a load for hunting? :)

All I have used so far has been Kent gamebore 2 1/2" low pressure loads with felt wads in number 6 or 7 1/2 shot, 1 oz. But now Prophet River handles RST low pressure shells which are cheaper than Kent.

Brian, I was out last week and did a side by side (see what I did there?) comparison of 1 oz loads of #6 in 2 1/2 inch shells from both Gamebore and RST. I think both are in the 1200 fps range. Did not pattern them.... Was actually shooting birds.

Both killed pheasants dead when I did my part. RST was a much, much softer shooting load. Will be saving my Gamebore for my heavier, glass bedded guns.

Physics tells us that you don't get something for nothing in shotshells. The RST cartridges, if they are "softer" shooting, give up something in velocity or payload. There is no other explanation.

Yup, sure does. I suspect the difference is in the speed of the powder burn.

Or someone's lying! LOL

Would have to be that someone is lying.
Accelerate mass A to velocity B, no matter the rate of powder burn, the energy in recoil is the same.
Minor differences in powder mass for slow or fast powders have little influence on the equation, though that can be input too.
There is endless discussion of this topic over on Shotgunworld.
Handy recoil calculator at : omahamarian.org/trap/shotshellenergy.html

saskbooknut, recoil energy may have to be the same but felt recoil could be different. And while I don't spend much time on shotgunworld, I do spend lots of time at doublegun and the same subject comes up there as well.

And to be clear, I'm not advocating for one over the other. Simply reporting on what I experienced personally. YMMV.
