Haha! No not a test. But good eye. My J & W Tolley 12 gauge game gun slipped in there. Very nice, very light gun.

And Ashcroft, about the table. I bought it about 10 years ago from a local retailer who spends 3 months a year shopping for product in Southeast Asia. Really a unique store. The table had a nice enough but bland finish. Two summers ago, on a whim, I decided refinish it. Could not believe what got revealed. Just gave it a Tung oil finish. I’ve had a couple friends who are cabinet makers look at it and none of us have any idea what it is.

As for the table, my brother in law has a hardwood floor in his house made from Australian Cyprus (if I recall correctly) and this wood is very similar to it. Gorgeous stuff!

Nope, its a 409!

I’ve had a couple friends who are cabinet makers look at it and none of us have any idea what it is.

Yup! Not very common with the round back receiver, which usually means that its a late model 409. Most had the straight stock to receiver style and some had a notchback. The receiver design for the Beretta 424, 425, 426 generation was redesigned and became the foundation for the 470, 471 Berettas.

Either way, the 409 is an excellent gun. I have had many move through my hands and still own one in 16g. So unfortunate that its doesn't fit me worth a damn because its a beautiful gun to carry in the field.

If you pop off the forearm, the model number will be stamped in the wood on the forearm surface that mates with the bottom of the barrels

Charles Masquelier

I traded recently to obtain this Belgian side-plated boxlock ejector. 12 ga., superior nitro-proof, 2 3/4" chambers, 27 3/4" steel bbls, 6 lbs 10 oz, chokes mod and IC, articulated front trigger, heel and toe caps on checkered butt sole. Maker was Charles Masquelier, Liege, with estimated d.o.m. 1937.
