There looks to be a slot underneath the riser that perhaps one can see through...thats why I asked.![]()
Yes there is a slot, but it is completely covered by rear sight .

Here's my restricted gal! Sorry for the camera phone pic for now, but better ones and build details to come! I love this rifle!

I like that look, kinda the same as mine. Is that a clone aimpoint? If so how do you like it?
If you are talking to me, Vortex StrikeFire. $189 at WSS. I like it much, though admittedly have no other experience with this type of optic.
Nice setup Mambo, what after market pop up sights did you use? Did you have to use a riser on your front NEA rail for the front sight? I figured I would need about a 1 inch rise to match the height of the rear cantileaver mount to even the sight picture between front and rear sight.
I guess that's why the sks has that metal "cleaning" rod attached to it. I doubt it's for cleaning and it's really to remove stuck casings during battle etc.
so if the rod is not for cleaning then how do they clean the bore when they are in the field?
"I got a damn stuck shell casing in the bore for the first time!" - MAMBO
This seems to be a common problem with the commie guns. I've had it happen twice in my sks and once in my cz-858. A couple of friends have had similiar experiences.
.
Thanks Striker! I've got the Yankee Hill QDS BUIS set and totally dig them. Super low profile (when folded) and lockup real nice. I got the HK style front. Yes you're right, the front sight is on a riser. I wanted everything 100% level to start and after measuring and seeing the NEA cantilever mount was over an inch tall I just decided to grab a second one and chopped the arm off to use it as a QD riser. Nice and easy. It hurt to butcher such a fine piece but it worked out beautifully for my setup. MY Vortex SPARC sits on a LaRue medium Micro TI mount (LT660HK) and I have a perfect absolute co-witness with my BUIS. I love having everything QD! Tearing down is a breeze and always gets the oohs and aahs from my buddies, haha.
I was having an excellent day at the range yesterday sighting in my BUIS and was just about to move on to my SPARC when I got a damn stuck shell casing in the bore for the first time! Boo! And I keep her crazy clean. Cut my fun short, big time. She's now at the smith getting an enema.

I always take a cleaning rod with me when I shoot my commie guns now. It's annoying not being able to shoot your rifle when a casing gets stuck and you've just started shooting.
I'm also really careful to clean the hell out of the chamber area on my commie guns.
Mine would lock the mechanism up and I would need a hammer to bang on the charging handle.. haaaaaaaaaaaard! Happened 3 or 4 times, but only after firing 600 or so rounds consecutively.
like i said.. kick start
grab the barrel ( or handguard if the barrell is too hot )
rifle butt on the round
and stomp on the charging handle like you're kicking a bike
Yea, at the time I had worn out skate shoes, too slippery. But I bet it would of worked like a charm with combat boots or anything with a hard sole. I had tried it before taking out ye ol hammar!
