Lets Talk About The 22LR Situation....again :)

man i cant seem to find anything in the vancouver area. its starting to drive me nuts looking, ive been out since december and i guess i just got #### luck or something but my guns are just getting dusty.

My Canadian tire still has a fair bit, I checked today, here is the rimfire ammo case:

That's amazing. Even when fully stocked none of the NS Canadian Tire stores I saw
have *anywhere* near that level. For starters, they don't have a separate rimfire cabinet.

22lr shortages are very much regional, they have been since the start. Many times no one in Alberta could find a single box when Ontario stores were loaded, then the opposite, then the East coast was dry, etc. Which region seems to have a shortage of 22lr seems to shift from region to region.

Online is almost always slim pickings because region doesn't matter.

Keep in mind that some CT's are corporate stores and some are franchises (I believe). Mostly it's just older one's that aren't corporate stores so I'm not sure if they allow new non-corporate stores or not. Some private CT stores sell crates of surplus 7.62x39 and even have full firearms displays, reloading equipment, powder, primers, and greatly enlarged ammunition sections. I've never seen a corporate store that has more than one of those display cases of ammo but there are some around that have entire aisles of rifles and ammo. Depends on the store.

Better than Walmart; some of their new locations don't carry any ammo at all.

Different stores are also allowed to price differently. There were reports of CT's in Alberta charging $99/500rnds during peak shortages and people were outraged because the prices online were much lower. There is a disclaimer on the site that different regions may have prices different from the website. Most of the reports of price gouging I read here on CGN, both big box and LGS, were in Alberta as well.

Our store is an older non-corporate store though I heard that it might be sold and going corporate. If so that is too bad because right now there are at least 8 large glass cabinets each with two racks full of rifles and shotguns and seven more cabinets the size of the rimfire one I posted full of ammunition. They even sold Tavors a while ago. I never noticed the "mainly in Alberta gouging" where I live, being an online shopper I noticed gouging pretty much country wide.

I'm not saying it's Alberta wide but the majority of the complaints about LGS' raising prices are from CGN members who list their location as somewhere in Alberta; or at least it seems that way from my viewings. Also a lot of comments about price hikes from the East coast. Online retailers can be pretty disgusting too since they get so much traffic they can increase prices and still keep sale. Online retailers that kept their prices reasonable are constantly sold out and the guys who's prices are on another planet always seem to have stock since not many will buy from them. Because they actually have stock they get a lot of publicity (albeit negative) since people are talking about them as they are the only guys who seem to have any stock.

Thankfully my small stockpile has kept me plinking without having to pay egregious prices and the cost of premium target/practice/club/match ammo hasn't moved too much for me at local stores.

Scored 10X100 rounds of CCI Green tag today at Baron, they have nothing else worth except CB caps 29 grs... Just saying. JP.

Was just at the Ottawa LeBarons and they have Win 222, Win 333, Win Wildcats, and Rem shorts; shelves full of them.
Wildcats are $26/500. I think I paid $24 last summer? I know I paid $17 a couple years ago pre-shortage. It's my bringing-friends-to-the-range ammo for plinking; dirty, not so accurate, occasional dud, but cycles almost all semi's.
Rem shorts are $47/500.

Of course, they're all "on special" so no discounts.

They also changed their 2lbs/person/day limit on powder. Now it's 2lbs of each type of powder/person/shipment. Different powders from the same brand are "different" for this purpose.

The CT here hasn't had 22 shells for two years now. The shelves get less and less every time I check and replaced with knives and pellet guns. That and fireworks. Walmart is the same. If I go to a CT in Sherbrooke they have a bit more but have never checked the Walmart there
