OK guys, mysticplayer and I were briefly talking about setting up a fun shoot up where he shoots long range (pics of spot in thread link below). I know there are a lot of us yearning to reach out past 500-800 to well over 1000, even as far as 2000 yards perhaps if you have the gear. I have a couple gongs and stuff we can throw out there in addition to paper and plinking targets. Anyone interested? We'd hope to get together 3 or more guys for a meet and shoot, and BS in person over gear etc. I'll likely be bringing a few rifles personally in the 1000 and under class :) Would be neat to get some interesting gear out to mull over, I'll try and do my part  . What do you say? Anyone interested? We were talking either the 20th of Nov, a Sunday, (weather is a major question mark for that day as the site is not accessible in snow) or just to do it in the spring. Who knows, if enough are interested we could maybe try both :)

The spot is near Summerland, BC. There is reasonable cost motel accomodation close to the shooting area for those from far out. The opportunity to shoot VERY far exists here :)

Here's mysticplayer's spot:

Anyone interested?

I would be very interested in something like this but probably moreso in the spring as I get back from my Alberta hunt on the 19th. I've been wondering when something like this was going to happen as there are quite a few people in the lower mainland interested in this type of shooting but very few areas to shoot (ranges I mean).

This is a great idea nonetheless and I look forward to bringing probably 5 rifles to test over various ranges. Count me in for a spring shoot if you decide to have one!

See if we can get a date asap so I can make sure Ive got the time off. First weekend in May is the Burns Lake shoot and I only miss that for my own funeral. Instead of the motel thing how about tent city out at Jerry's shooting spot? Hows it going to be if say 15 or 20 shooters show up there? I dont know about this place. This wont screw things up for Jerry shooting there will it?

Motels are near by and cheap. Cheaper if shared. All the amenities. I can certainly set something up with the motels and try for a group rate. usually off season is $65 per night and that would be with two beds.

Unfortunately, planning that far a head for me is tough with family obligations. If there is interest, I will certainly post something early next year. Depending on the snow, we can get in there around March. I think March April would be ideal. Get's some practise before the KM shoots. If the winds are up, you will really have to know how to dope.

Almost no traffic in that area that time of year so having a few more shooters is not a big deal. This is crown land but has public traffic. Just keep spotters out for traffic. Not very often and not much traffic.

Have a look at the pics. That flat is 700yds+ to the base of the hill. From there you can get almost to 1000yds at the treeline. The neighbouring hillsides allow you to plink much further. The furthest I have shot is 1800m (just under 2000yds). That was to the base of another hillside.

As for gear, don't get to worried that you don't have some high tech whiz bang. If you have the scope adjustments, even the 308 is useable  It's all about getting out and having some fun.

This would just be a day shooting and BS'ing. Nothing formal. Shooting gongs, clays and those nasty varmint boulders. It will give you a chance to stretch out all that wonderful hardware. Just no booze or drugs as always.

If there was a need to build something new this fall, I would suggest a 6.5 or 7mm. Bullets are so cheap and easy to get and performance is spectacular. I am shooting my big 30 rarely these days and really having fun with my 7RM's. Hope to put together a 280 of some kind shortly. If all goes well with time, I might even get my new BR 6.5Mystic ready.

Keep it in mind. Whether its a few or more, no problem. We will just need more benches.

Would it be OK if I put up my wall tent for a day or two there? Im more the camper than a moteler. Also with these boys coming from Calgary I may have an order in and see if it wouldnt be to much hassle for someone to pick it up at Wholesale or Russels for me.

Sounds like the makings of a lot of fun. I'll be bringing the 6.5-284 for paper and the 300 mag for LR gong ringing. Ive never tried that one past 1K so I'll put the .040" shim in the Burris rings and just see how far is far.

I would be interested in coming out November 20 as well as next spring. Just pm me and I'll be there. I have been shooting at 400 yard targets but would like to try longer distances.

Springs sound good sometime after the Burns Lake shoot, Good chance a few of the regulars at the Burns shoot would be interested .
Everyone is welcome to the Burns Lake shoot also... it is a lot of fun ( ask Moosehunter ) and being 1050yrd and uphill adds a bit more fun getting on the board :)

Its usually the first weekend in May. The weight classes are Heavy barrel up to 17lb. and unlimited is if you can drive it to the firing line then have at her. Basicly NBRSA rules. Heavy is 5 shot groups and unlimited is 10. My pic was taken at Burns Lake. Your not going to meet a better bunch of people and its a hell of a good time. I tent it right at the range as do several others. Theres also a hunter and a sporter class so bring your favorite hunting rig and some reloads and some factory ammo for it. Hook up with me on the way through PG and we can travel together.

Sounds like a fun shoot, but i have to say I'm not much of a BR shooter I'm more into the bipod on the ground kinda thing or the conventional shooting positions. But will give it some thought If it lines up with Summerland maybe do two back to back and make a good holiday out of it.
