Long range fun shoot gathering in BC, 1000 yards+

The Burns Lake 1000 yard shoot is May 6th and 7th. All the info can be found here http://www.bctsa.bc.ca/tsa_cal.html For those of you from out of town who want to get sighted in and get some practice in, there are usually a number of local shooters there the week before the shoot to help you get on target. We are also scheduling 1000 yard fun shoots June 4th, July 2nd, July 30th, and Aug 27th. These fun shoots are shoot what you bring. We are open to suggestions as to what targets or ranges out to 1040 yards.

I was just out yesterday with the .338 LM thinking, I really have to start shooting past 300m with this thing.

Jeeez, thats like someone with a Porche 911 saying "I should really take this thing out on the highway"

Well, at long last we have a final date for this fun shoot.

It will be April 29th!!!

Start your planning for gear and toys. As you confirm your ability to come, let me know and the support gear you can bring. I will keep a tally of stuff so that we cover the bases.

Looking forward to seeing you guys this spring.

Well guys, it is the end of March so let's see who is still interested in coming out to burn some powder.

We will need to get a list of stuff so that everyone will be comfortable and have lots of trigger time.

Again, this is a fun day. Nothing formal or organised per se. Bring out your LR toys and let's say hi and have some fun.

I'll have to confirm with work this week but it looks good so far. I just got some material from work to build a couple of long range targets. 1" conduit for the stands and 5/8" thick steel plates 24" x 24" and 30" x 24". I also have a couple of 1/2" thick steel plate that I want to try to see how they stand up to some fast flyin copper coated lead pills.

I will confirm by the end of the week though.

2' targets are huge. I doubt you are going to need much more then 12" X 12" at 750yds. You would have to carry those plates a long ways as the road ends at 700yds.

Glad to hear that you are making some targets and plan to attend. Anyone else?

I have a roughly 18" gong that will be coming and I'd like to lay it around 1000 yards as it's only 3/8" (likely be toast by the end regardless, but it's free scrap anyhow, maybe I won't slap it with the 7mm STW :p ), and hope to have 2, maybe 3 rifles to play with. Right now looks like I'll be bringing a heavy .308, a totally built M14 (still building, every single piece other than the stripped Norc reciever is being changed to TRW :) ), a 7mm STW, and less likely to be complete in time a 7mm WSSM.

Just catching up on this thread. Is this event still scheduled for April 29th? Open for all to attend? Just getting back into the saddle with new rifle and looking for some fun events to get out and practice. Not much for long range around here as well so stretching things out would be way nice!

The event is still on for April 29th. I would like to limit to around 20 shooters so we all get lots of trigger time. Obviously, there is still lots of opportunity to come. We will be shooting on crown land so each person is responsible for their actions and those they bring (four or two footed variety). No restricted or Prohib firearms. However, there is also no cal limit so 50 BMG's are good to go.

Everyone there must have hearing protection as there will be large muzzle braked boomers. Also, all shooters must wear eye protection. All shooters must have a spotter both for safety and to help with doping (no wind flags).

I still need benches/tables (make sure they are as wiggle free as possible), chairs, front/rear rests to shoot from (the more we have, the more time each of you have to shoot), spotting scope/bino for each bench. Ideally, we should have a bench for every 4 guys (more better). Need walkie talkies so that we can maintain perimeter safety. All will have to take turns doing road duty.

The flat we are shooting from is approx 700yds to the base of a hill. We can set up for the shortest range to be anywhere from 500yds to 700yds. Personally, I prefer further (why we are here in the first place).

That will allow you to shoot pretty close to 1000yds up the hill(bring rangefinders so that you can blaze your own targets). There is no road going up that hill so you have a long walk if you want to carry and set up a gong there. There are plenty of rocks which is what I shoot (yeah, I'm lazy). Rocks don't fall over either!!!

Behind are more hills with targets of opportunity and the ranges get out a very long ways.

If someone is bringing a quad, it will make target resetting alot easier. This is a wide open area so no cover if things get hot or wet. Anyone with a portable awning should bring it for sure.

Food and drink (no booze, plenty of time after) should be carried up as we will be a ways from the restaurants. The 'facilities' are au Naturel.

If anyone needs accomodation, you can call the Rosedale Motel at 494-6431. There is camping facilities nearby but not sure if they are opened that early.

Access is 4x4/truck only. No way to drag up a car or trailer. Way too rough. So we will need enough seats for everyone and their gear. We will be meeting in Summerland first then driving out so cars will have a place to park for the day.

Nothing formal for 'event's is being arranged but I am sure we can set up something on the fly. My intent is to let each shooter have a lot of trigger time. Each shooting session will be 15min where you can shoot as many rds or as many rifles as you want. Then a quick pause while your spotter switches with the shooter and a way we go again. Then a break as we switch road crews (2 sets at either end of the road). Back to more shooting.

Unless, there is demand, I will not be stopping for lunch (grab a bite as you need it). With enough benches and quick turnaround, there is little issue with each shooter getting an hour of shooting in the day so bring ALOT of ammo.

If anyone interested in coming could confirm by April 19th with a list of items they are bringing. I will use this confirmation post as a sign up incase numbers get too big.

Hope for good weather and a solid turnout.

Jerry

Boys I'm in!

I'll be up for the weekend from Vancouver with a 4x4 Ford crew cab P/U.
Probably 2 rifles(.338 Lapua and .300 Win Mag), Leupold spotting scope, Swaro rangefinder, Couple of steel targets, nothing in terms of bench yet but I'll try to get something together.

BTW

2' targets are huge. I doubt you are going to need much more then 12" X 12" at 750yds. You would have to carry those plates a long ways as the road ends at 700yds.

You haven't seen me shoot yet:D :D :D
