Long range fun shoot gathering in BC, 1000 yards+

As to number of shooters, that will depend on the number of benches and support optics we can get. Probably keep it to around 20 shooters. It will be mid to late April so look at your schedules and post dates that work best.

No cal limit but let's just say 50BMG. No incendiary or tracer rds as there is lots of grasses that could burn.

Otherwise, bring whatever. Only requirement that the rifle and ammo are safe to operate.

Most shooting will be from 700 to 950yds with the option to go further.

For those interested in coming, you probably read my previous post with equipment needs. Please review and post what you will be bringing. No use having a whole bunch of guys and nothing to range shoot or spot with.

If the dates work for me, I have a spotting scope, rangefinding I will be practicing my skills with the TMR rectical in my Leupold LRT mk4 on my New ATRS rifle.....It will be ready by then eh Rick? I was going to bring my car but if we need a truck to get up the mountain I will bring my truck. If you have any particular wants let me know Mystic I would be more than happy to help out with what i can, I was thinking Pumpkins at 1000yrds filled with died water would be a neat target, its always neat to see things kinda explode. What would be the chances of making it a 2 day shoot, It's a long drive from Fort Mac for a single day, but that doesnt mean I'm not comeing for a one dayer!!

LRC, see if you can put a portable bench together. I make mine from Black and Decker Workmates. Just bolt a 1" thick 2' X 3' to 4' piece of plywood on top. They are quite stable and easy to fold away.

Where are you going to get pumpkins that time of year?

If we will clean up, milk jugs work just fine. The grass should be low enough that we can see them out at the 850 to 950 ydish distance (maybe a simple stand???). It's just a walk of a few hundred yards if we don't have a quad. No way to drive up that hill without trashing the countryside (avoided so I don't make any enemies). I am lasy so just plink at boulders that far out.

One day is all I can confirm at this time. Yes, a bit of a pain but most will have to travel back anyways for Monday. Let's see how many 'sign' up. So far, looks like three to five are interested/commited which is a nice start. I am sure CGN'ers in the valley will come which should raise the number by 3 to 5 more.

I also hope that this post continues to work. Have been having trouble posting.

I think I can hobble a bench together, and also add a couple shooters to the shoot more than likely 2 for sure, maybe a few more by the time it gets closer to the shoot. I didnt think about the time of year about the Pumpkins had my mind on recent events....but Mellons or gords or what ever that may have outlived there shelf life in the local market would be good and economical, Nice thing about them is they are bio-degradeable and if I may say a reactive target. If we get a good balance of B.C. to A.B. maybe we could have a friendly provincial competition for Pride or something else....what do ya think?....I was Born In B.C. so it would be win win for me

Having fun, meeting some members, S&G's is what this day will be about.

We can set up whatever we want. Just do some planning before hand so we have the necessary stuff and time to set up.

Here are tentative dates: April 22 or 29th '06

It's a long ways off so let's keep the post active and post our interest in coming...

I can help book motel rooms for out of towners. Maybe work out a discount????

Jerry

The annual 2-day gun show in Vancouver is on April 22-23 so that would limit the Lower Mainland people who can attend.
I realise that it's impossible to avoid all other events, but it sure would be good to get up there.

I hope everyone had a great Xmas season. Let's have a poll to decide the date. Will be either April 29th or May 13th since the weekend before is the Burns Lake shoot.

That will give all a chance to hit two spots if interested.

It's a ways off so no way to plan weather and such. Maybe a poll is a good idea. Anyone know how to set this up on this post?

Jerry

For all coming and needing to stay over night, I can talk to the motels and see if I can get a group discount. There are camping facilities in town that would accept 5th wheels. Not sure when they open but will check.

There is no way to get a non truck into the shooting location. We would need to meet up bright and early and head out in available trucks.

SOOO we need to also see who is driving in with trucks or else we will not be able to ferry everyone in.

Start talking to each other and organize the gear/tables/ spotting scopes/radios/etc. I gave a list of needed stuff way back. Without tables (solid ones), you will not get as much shooting as available which would be a real shame.

I will have a truck (Ram Cummins Quad Cab) so I can take a couple of guys and lots of gear. I also have a rangfinder and spotting scope and, if anyone wants to use it, a chronograph. If someone has a set of plans or the dimensions I can make up a bench or 2 or 3 or???

April 29th for me. May 13th Im already commited to bieng in Medicine Hat building a new porch for my folks. I'll be coming in a car but I will bring a bench, spotting scope, chrony.

I have made a portable bench using a Black and Decker Workmate. Easy to fold. I just bolted a piece of OSB to the top. Approx 20"X 30". Just size it to the rifle length, and rests used. Bigger is better but harder to make solid and stable.

So far it looks like April is in the lead. Let's give it till Jan 10 to see what works best and we will make a decision.

Jerry

I would like to go aswell. Either weekend is fine provided nothing comes up last minute. I've got an F-350 crew cab so 5 people plus gear to get to the shooting area is fine. I've also got a spotting scope, rangefinder and will make a bench.

I was just out yesterday with the .338 LM thinking, I really have to start shooting past 300m with this thing.

Looking forward to this guys.
