Looking for an AK...

Cant do it man. Ive had 4 7.62x39 including 2 unfired ones. None sold for less that 7K and one went for 10K.

Steve

A Valmet Hunter in 223 can turn into a Galil AR clone with a Galil AR parts kit, a Hunter in 308 can turn into a Galil ARM clone with a Galil ARM parts kit, an M78 in M43 is an RPK and you can mock up a Valmet M76 facsimile with a parts kit and Valmet receiver. And none of those options will be less than $6000 Canadian minimum.

Picked up my M78 in 7.62x39 for $5500.

Seller contacted me about my WTB ad named his price and I paid what he asked for.

Bought a bunch of spare parts for it from the seller and a bayonett. Took the price to $6200. There are deals to be had.

Saying that I won't sell it ever (unless I lost my job and was very hard up for cash). The gun has cost me another $1000 in mags and parts I have picked up for it.

Well that's what I've got into mine with out the bayo ( you lucky fusser) it seems they are not all that rare. And I would sit with it on the unemployment line. I'm still sleeping with her ! The wife hates it lollololo but loves me! Have you come across a bayo since

Do you have any idea how many 762's there may be in canada

I would venture to guess between 10-15.. but thats just an educted guess.. As for the .308 M78's we imported at least 40, let alone what was in Canada already and what other people have imported through other dealers.

Well I don't feel bad for what I paid for mine! I may have even got a real good deal and definitely feel privileged to have gotten it! I thank the good man who parted with her every time I kiss her good night! But I would definitely buy another if I was lucky enough to get the chance again!
Steve if you ever come across a bayonet for one I'd love to own one

1) The AK47 isn't a WW2 gun. It came after WW2.

2) A Valmet is an AK. He can have an AK, and there are two types of it available.

3) You roast the guy, they say you want to have a gun that is prohibited, of which there are better versions of???

4) The US has both the AK and the VZ58, and yet the AK rules the two of them in that market. Pretty sound reasoning the AK would up here too.

Being so familiar with the VZ as are most canadians and having no issues after 2000 rounds, I would actually have to own an AK to agree with #4. And with the VZ so familiar to me and been my go to shooter It would be hard to bring my self to buy an AK to replace it.

Just like the AK built it self a name the VZ/CZ has been too. Lots of videos from the USA comparing the 2. Time will tell who is right 30 years down the road. The VZ is gaining popularity around the world used by the same orginazitions that formally or also use AK's.

AK's will always be popular just like the AR, Question is what will join these 2?

Every time one of you says you own an "unfired" M78 it makes me cringe. They are one of only two AKs that can legally be fired in Canada.....and they are still safe queens? :d

The Hunter's coming along slowly... waiting for my Galil receiver cover, front sight , AK muzzle device, and extended mag release to arrive, and then it'll be sent off for the last little bits:
- shorten, re-crown, and thread the barrel
- rivet on the trigger guard
- build and install front and rear handguard retainers
- build and install a block for the rear of the receiver, to fill in the gap

Already function tested the revised trigger assembly, and it seems to work fine :)

Trigger assembly:

And the overall project:

More closeups of the virgin.

Original packing grease is visible in the receiver. The tritium insert (middle dot) still works, but obviously not like a new. The front sight has a flip up night sight. I don't think the barrel is chrome lined on these, although it's hard to tell and there is very little info on the 7.62 version online. At the time I obtained it it was estimated to be less than 10 in country (around 2011). Likely this has changed with recent imports. This one is marked ODIN INTERNATIONAL and my search places it around 1980-81 year of production.

cheers,

I don't see the point in keeping them unfired at all. Eventually a Government will come along and take them so might as well enjoy them before you have to weld them up or turn them in.

Lucky for me I see a point. For me, the real shame here is living in fear of what a government may or may not do. In fact, that's kind of paranoid. I don't do the paranoid thing.
I've got plenty of firearms that I enjoy which get ferried to range, get heated up, banged up and passed around. I am no lightweight in this hobby. And I've shot AKs before, it is not a life altering experience (it should not be one either).

This hobby has something for all us, even if no one agrees on what it is. Many folks here don't even shoot, they just comment on boards.

cheers,

There is nothing wrong with a VZ58. I have the restricted version. It was one of the first run to be available in Canada. I bought it from Marstar and I love the gun. As I have 12.5, I could buy a made semi AK, but what's the point? You can't shoot it anywhere. I would love to own a Valmet, but I just can't afford it right now.

I'm going to just sit on mine for now, keep my 12-5, and hope one day the powers that be realize my 5 shot semi auto doesn't jump up and murder puppies and children when they are in the same room.
