Looking for an AK...

I'm going to just sit on mine for now, keep my 12-5, and hope one day the powers that be realize my 5 shot semi auto doesn't jump up and murder puppies and children when they are in the same room.

I wish I had one before the ban went into effect, but it is what it is at this point in time, so my Russian Tula deact AKM will have to do.

My thought is....I ought to be allowed to legally discharge these again!!

This sounds like a April fools question.
Ok was going to buy a CZ858 Canadian, but thought, for the price and a little or a lot more, why not get an AK. So my question is , what AK's are we allow to have in Canada, that's NR and good to shoot anywhere I can shoot my JR or SKS...etc.
And what would be the going rate?? $2500.00-3500.00 or...?
Thanks for looking.
Cheers
Brian

Valmet M78 and Valmet Hunter... that is it.

You can get either for as low as $2000 to and upside average of $4000 range out of the US, then add import fees. If you want the M78 in x39, expect to pay closer to $6000. It was rare. Note they cost that in the US, and they have all sorts of AKs available to them. They are expensive because they are good, rare, and out of production everywhere, not just cuz it is the only one they can get.

Valmet Hunter came in 223, 308, 30-06 and 243...

Valmet M78 came in 223, 308 and 7.62x39...

They're expensive in the USA because they are rare and out o production. I would not say they are any better than a mas produced variant aside from fit and finish.

They're expensive up in Canada because it's the only actual AK action non prohibited licence holder can own.
I've fired and handled the 7.62 NATO version. Shoots like every other Russian, chinese, yugo and Romanian I've also shot.
It's an AK. A utility work horse, disposable gun.
The valmets are just utility work horse disposable guns with fancy wood and nicer machining.
I always thought them odd. Like making a fancy machined hammer with etchings and a mahogany handle with a $1000 price tag. The mass produced $10 hammer will drive nails all day just like it, just as long and exactly the same end result.

Give me a $400 Chinese AK any day. I like my AK's dirty, cheap and mass produced at a frantic pace. They all do the same thing. Thats the real beauty of the rifle. Hypothetically of course because of our inane laws...
