Hey Guys.
I've been getting several questions about scope mounts these days, I've tried to pass on what I know from my experiences. First I would recommend anyone read the sticky at the top of the page......skip the first part.....as the second part is just the updated version.
I took some pictures a little while ago....I don't know why I didn't put the old and new style Arms mounts in there???
So here is what some of these mounts look like.
Here are various angles of 4 different mounts, 3 Smith and 1 McCann mount.
Here is what you are looking at, L - R, Top to bottom.
1 - SMith Acog mount, I recommend for anyone using a Sage stock or anyone that wants a little more eye relief on there rifle, as this will allow you to bring your scope back about 1.5 inches. You can also unbolt the rail to allow direct mounting of an Acog. No stacking tolerances there (Sparrow)
1 - McCann mount. These were only around for a few years, heavy steel construction with rinky-dink bolt on weaver rails, they were rated very well ...for a time. One of these days I'll put a better rail on it. This mount is quite similar to the SA Gen 3 but requires you to drill thru the mounted block to fit your own receiver (stipper clip mount) I have never used it.....it's just part of the oddities I have collected over the years.
1 - Regular Smith #2006 mount with see thru 1913 rail
1 - Smith #2024 mount with see thru Weaver rail

Closer view of #2024 and #2006
Over the years I have used these mounts in this order
SA Gen 3 (sold it, it worked well....with a little loctite (blue) but it's very high)
Arms #18 (Old open style, will never sell it, still my favourite because it is so low)
Arms #18 New style.....jamming issues.....sold it.
Smith #2006 Another keeper!!!! The only better in my mind would be the Sadlak Titanium....but I'm sure someone will comment on the heating properties of the Ti being mounted to an 8620 receiver
Smith #2005 Acog once again a keeper but iron sights are now useless....not that I ever use them
Smith #2024 Weaver OK so I haven't used it....but except for the different rail and the stamping on the side.....I can't tell the difference.
So you guys......don't buy the crap mounts....IMHO the #2024 mount is the best bang for the $ right now. Smith said they were going to stop making them....but.....I've heard of more batches being made. Get one while you can !!
So there you go my $ .02
GG&FB.......Out !
