So thus, only AR10’s that were sized up AR15 variants were restricted. Truly original spec AR10 semi autos couldn’t be said to be variants of a rifle that didn’t exist until later.

Now, all AR10 and variants are prohibited (whether named or not.)

Calling the macdef an AR10 variant is absurd tho.
 
I guess that a lot of this bs will ultimately get sorted in the courts... Lots of people could get caught because who goes through the FRT before going to the range or hunting, especially if the police starts to crack on things hunters and shooters.

Even if you could check the FRT before you leave the house;

The legal status of your gun could actually change while you're out hunting.
 
Looks like my SLR receiver set will be refunded.

But it looks like my Coyote hasn't been picked up by Canada Post yet. At least according to Canada Post.
If that's the case, should the retailer still allow it to be sent out? From a legal standpoint.

Unless the FRT for that specific rifle gets changed I imagine they will ship it.

EDIT: Oh wait... did BCL get a new FRT for the coyote or did they just piggyback off the SLR FRT since they didn't make any changes to the design? I really don't know the answer to this.
 
So the SLR is an AR10 because it has some features reminiscent of an AR10 prototype that never went into production? By their logic, any long stroke gas piston rifle is an AK47. Any blowback PCC is a Tommy gun. And any short recoil pistol is a 1911. Idiots.

If this is true though it’s a bloody bs. Not a variant and not on the OIC. Making it up as they go. Good to see the RCMP firearms guys up to the same old bull of reinterpreting the law. I mean it was the lab that declared it wasn’t a variant and gave it the non-restricted classification so where do they got off just changing it? This needs to make the news. Undemocratic OIC during a pandemic wasn’t bad enough? Now they’re so bold that they don’t even bother to follow any legal process to reclassify stuff?

The Stag 10 was also said to have no similarities to anything in the Prohibited classification. Yet there it is, named as an AR10 variant.

Again, the crown has to prove and demonstrate that the item, is indeed according the the law(s), prohibited.

For all this "AR variant" bs, again, the crown has to demonstrate that it is, in fact, a variant. They can't just recall the FRT up and declare it prohibited.

The crown will have to be EXTREMELY careful for such a case as it will set precedence (good and/or bad) for any decision the judge makes.

Hint: the whole 'looks like an AR/tactical' will get shot down soo fast in a criminal court it will be laughable (and set a precedent).

Any any point, the legislature will have to define what 'variant' is/means. For a firearm, is it the receiver? Is it a combination of receiver/bolt/action? Is it color? etc

I agree. I've been thinking that they have to be careful with the term 'variant' as well. It could have repercussions in the patent industry.

Real estate drop of only 20%? That would be optimistic with the parameters you set.

Yes, the brain drain, as well as the company and upper end wealth drain, would cause a lot of issues.
