Making the T97 more Reliable (Update #118)

Caramel, the Norinco .45 you are considering will also benefit from some smoothing out of the sharp edges.......

I'd like to think that for a grand a gun will be good to go out of the box but these guns are not really 1000 dollar guns from the factory and it's not like you would have a hard time buying an american gun in the $700 dollar range that has some minor issues out of the box.

I for one would rather fix something minor myself then return a gun or send it off for warranty work that could take months for a 15 minute job.

So I had some feed issues, causing bullets to get inserted into the casings. Instead of the filing I adjusted the mags. The norinco supplied mag was basically fine . I have 2 lar mags both work no issue now. I will say that 1 mag lar does not fit well. It drops much lower than the other when facing the feed ramp area. It's just sitting too low. This mag I will take back and get a better fitting mag. Thoughts gentleman. Myself I'd rather tweak the mags and ensure they fit the rifle. It's a 20$ part of pliable metal.

Also I cannot tell from the photos but this area in your mag extend up vertically then angle say 45 degrees as a solid angled ramp towards the firing chamber correct, or do some folks not have this angled pitch? When you look in with a mag in place on bolt open, does you mag sit low in front of this ramp? Or is it flush with the ramp beginning, even if you wiggle the mag around?

Everyone please be aware, cutting into the aluminum like that bypasses the surface hardening/protection process of the anodizing, your compromised metal will erode further overtime.

My gosh... I cant believe there are still people who think ANY gun can be mass produced without manufacturing tolerances that may, or may not, require a bit of end user adjustment.

In the short 2.5 years ive been a gun owner I have now bought and sold over 100 guns. Of those 100, at least 60 were considered "expensive" and nearly every one of them required some sort of adjustment or upgrade part to solve some sort of known issue out of the box. The guns I didnt have to tweak are all of the more expensive variety. I think its pretty well understood by EVERYONE that most norincos will need a bit of working to get them to run excellent. But lets be honest, for the $$ how can you expect any different. Sure, $1000 is $1000... im not going to argue that its alot of money. But it has to be considered in context. $1000 for a bullpup is NOT alot of money. Its actually very affordable. Having to do a tiny bit of filing to get it to work with NON FACTORY magazines... magazines manufactured in countless places by countless OTHER companies with countless additional variations in design and tolerance is NOT a big issue.

Instead of being pleased that Norinco is, once again, manufacturing a gun specifically for the canadian market, one that is over $1000 cheaper than its next competitor (yes, not as refined but entry level is what it is for a reason), we complain because its not perfect. Just silliness.

Well put!! And the whole idea of fitting a couple of specific mags to the gun is the epitome of retarded in my humble opinion. The whole purpose of this gun is a firearm that takes readily available AR 15 mags. Why in the world would I fit one or two mags to the rifle, and then spend the rest of my life having to make sure I have the right mags for it, when I can perform a couple simple little modifications to the rifle itself and have ANY standard AR mag work? Modding the mag is so bassackward it makes my head hurt trying to grasp the logic.
As always YMMV!

Word.

I don't want to sound like I'm rich or anything (I'm not), but $1000 for a NR Bullpup that takes AR magazine is very cheap. Modifying it for ultimate reliability makes a lot of sense to me.

I had a similar problem with my SKS and I fiddled with the mag and it resolved feeding issues. However, I do see OP's point to create those ramps.

And yes I really like the idea of a bullpup for $1000 and will be adding myself to the preorder list.

Im not a Norinco fan but for $1000 i might give it a shot, my issue is comes with 1 mag.
I got
2 Pmag Gen 3
3 Lar mags
I suck at custom work, how can i get this done to make it take other mags.

I don't think there's a solution for it at this time. I don't understand why the feeding problem wasn't resolved from the start. It took less than a day to find out where the problem lies. It's easily solvable from the design stage.
