Mannlichers....

I notice that Prophet River dropped the asking price on that rare fullstock Krico 222 (Brno 465 clone) to just below a grand.

But it would still be a pain trying to find a mag (Brno 465?) to fit...and then only after digging out the wood plug.

Probably missing parts for the mag release latch as well.

Guessing you load 358 diameter projectiles? I imagine with modern powders and a true 358 bore the cartridge would be quite a performer. Seems it was a very popular sporting cartridge in it’s day

How are the chambers on the Mausers of this era?

Yes, I use the same bullets as I used in my 358 Win. Chambers will vary depending on how well it was taken care of. - dan

Yikes, 2.5-3 times the cost of a nice half stock model 1600 at intersurplus

Those few extra inches of wood to produce a full-stock rifle have always been expensive. VG condition full-stock HVA carbines were already going for $900. back in the 80's when you could pick up a minty HVA half-stock featherweight carbine for half the price of a fullstock. Now, the latest flood of Scandinavian rifles into North America has seriously depressed Husqvarna prices. Except it seems, in the case of full-stock carbines.

Still...a stiff price at Reliable...and that is before tax and shipping!

A few decades back, I used to live just down the street from Reliable in Vancouver and often stopped in to have a look. The used rack was right in front of the center main counter where you could easily get at the guns. Most were priced right, there was a lot of turn-over and there were many bargains to be had. Not so much these days it seems.

Funny, I also used to live a few blocks from reliable. At the time everything was out of my price range but I loved to look at their used rack

I mostly remember the guns that I didn't manage to liberate from the Reliable used rack. For example, I recall hesitating to buy (for cheap) an otherwise vg condition Oberndorf Mauser Model M just because the bolt handle had been slightly modified. When I came to my senses and went back to buy it, of course it was gone. And now I'm still looking for a good Model M.

It's coming together. Should have the mag by mid-Nov.

Bright and clear West German Schmidt & Bender 4x36 with duplex reticle. CZ 1in./26mm rings.

Recently learned:

Krico copied the Brno 465 but no Brno parts were used. All German manufacture 1956-63.
No interchange of significant parts with Brno. For one thing, the Krico bolt is .5 inch longer.

The Krico stocks were made in Germany by R.S. Wolf.

Original Krico receivers were investment-cast by Pfaff. (Now best known as a sewing machine manufacturer.)
Later ones (after SN 103442) were fully-milled.
Production ceased in 1963 because manufacturing costs exceeded profit.
Krico claimed they lost money on every one of these rifles.
They then came up with a totally different design for a .222 that was easier/cheaper to make.
