Marihuana at Hunting Camp.

just the so called " recreational use" is what i have a problem with ! People have real medical needs for medicine ( and that is a completely different and absolutely necessary for those individuals ) I've never had a problem with people that have a genuine medical need and only wish them a speedy recovery and good health.

Add the "recreational use" of alcohol, tobacco and caffeine to your statements and some people may start to take you seriously. Otherwise you are just a twittering troll, we've already heard your 1930's take on marijuana enough.

Its because of guys like you that we need rules unfortunately..... Last I checked, the safe storage laws are a federal thing, not an "East West thing"....

If I'm not mistaken, a bolt action rifle can be left out with the bolt out of the gun and ammunition sitting next to it in most hunt camps because it would be considered for protection from wildlife.

It did sail. These guys are relics of the past.

They are pretty sure that they are ' Inside the tent p*ssing out ' when they seem to be ' Outside the tent p*ssing in '
And nice try at an 'about face' Dimebag. At least you didn't go down the ' Edit it out ' road.
Going to give you credit on this bit of integrity.

For the impending raid on hunt camps that somehow find hunting rifles. O good heavens. We definitely need rules to govern such behaviour.

My hunt camp is a dwelling.... as I am sure you are aware, when inside a dwelling and not being used firearms must be trigger locked or locked in a cabinet.....

There are many hunt camps in the area and the MNR does come around once in a while, they even have a key to the gate.... So yes, if they knock on the door and I open it and there are 7 rifles leaning against the back wall while their owners are drinking beer and playing euchre, charges will be laid....

And what did Gatehouse do that requires rules be enforced? The firearm is unloaded, and in a cabin with himself and other hunters. It's not going to get up and walk out the front door on its own, nor is someone going to look over and say " oh yeah, we've got guns here, let's go do something stupid!"

See above

Yes, there are provisions for protection from wildlife.... for one rifle... I have ten guys in my camp... If 6 of them don't put their guns away properly those provisions aren't going to cover it....

it all makes sense why these guys fight so goddam hard to keep drugs in their system ... imagine them at your camp for 1-2 weeks drying out from their addiction ! ya detoxing a junky at hunt camp, just like drying out a drunk

Marijuana Withdrawal Symptoms : ( taken from addiction center.com )
headaches or restlessness. On the other hand, those with severe forms of marijuana addiction may endure more intense withdrawal symptoms, including sweating, fever, chills and hallucinations. Anxiety
Depression, Mood changes, Irritability, Stomach pains, Loss of appetite ,Nausea,Insomnia

good times at camp detox !!! LOL

here from narconon

Marijuana Effects
Compulsive eating, bloodshot and squinty red eyes (may have trouble keeping them open), dry mouth, excessive and uncontrollable laughter, forgetfulness, short-term memory loss, extreme lethargy, delayed motor skills, occasional paranoia, hallucinations, laziness, lack of motivation, stupidity, sickly sweet smell on body, hair and clothes, and strong mood changes and behaviors when the person is “high.”

Yah, a real pretty picture

After reading the effects of Marijuana I think you'd better keep the gun handy, cause the guy that just went outside for a puff will turn into a Marijuana Zombie and attack everyone inside.

If you can, show us one case of a warden arresting hunters for having a rifle at hunt camp.
Otherwise, don't be paranoid.

I'm not sure who to be more worried about.

The pot heads who will menace our hunt camps with bags of Doritos and conspiracy theories

Or

The appointed boss who contends one needs to lock up their rifle on a hunting trip in order to legally do ones business in the woods.

NOPE, thats your idea that i have a problem with genuine medicinal use.. Nice try

and you know what you can do with your " credit "

I have posted a couple times on this thread and keep coming back to it. It is important that we not start pizzing all over each other on this subject. Cannabis has the pyscho active ingredient THC and many other compounds which interact with our bodies. I started researching cannabis as an alternative to the drugs which were not controlling Harley's incredibly bad seizures. I managed to reduce his Pheno. Barb. and Pot. Bromide use by 65% and less intense seizures. All good. A lot of very good info online that explain the pluses and minuses of Cannabis. Stay away from sites with any political affiliation, they are all biased to whatever agenda they follow. As I mentioned earlier it has been around me since I was a young teenager so am pretty familiar with the good and bad effects that go along with its use. There is a big difference between use of anything and the abuse of same. For those of you who hate the thought of it, do some more research and you will probably change your opinion. I know there is one thing we all have in common. We hunt and shoot. Some of us smoke pot, some of us drink, some do both and some neither. The OP's question was valid and also incited a lot of negativity. It indicates a real need for education on the pluses and negatives of cannabis' uses and effects. I will restate another fact that we can all agree on: Use of firearms in any context be it hunting, plinking whatever, there is no room for impairment. As a community we need to stick together and issues like this can be dividing.

I am not going to start digging through court dockets to find cases.... The fact is, it's not legal to leave your rifle propped up against a wall at hunt camp for the night without a trigger lock... And considering one guy got charged at the camp a year ago for putting his rifle in the scabbard of his four wheeler 5 minutes after legal light, I would rather not take a chance.... It's a criminal charge that has the potential to stay with you for the rest of your life....

At the end of the day, here are my "rules"

- Dues are to be paid by October 31st (This is so I am not dishing out of pocket for food for ten guys)
- No hunting under the influence (Alcohol or Pot)
- When you come in for the night, put your gun in the locker
- If you use the camp out of season, make sure when you leave that the propane is off, generator is full and so is the woodbox (So the next guy coming in doesn't have to do it)

If having these rules in place makes me some sort of dictator in your eyes, then I don't quite know what to say about that......

You must ask permission to go to the bathroom.

Mature.... Very mature.....

May you one day feel the joy of opening a beer, drinking that beer, then shooting that beer can.

Being as you're a stickler for rule, I do hope you're paying trudeau some tax on that income you are generating.

I hunt out of two camps in Ontario. At night we unload our guns and put them in the rack. They are not in storage, they are in use. If they we're in storage, they would need to be locked. A gun has three states as defined by law.

1. In use
2. In storage
3. Being transported

Don't ever let the authorities trick you into describing your gun as being in storage when it is actually in use. Some examples of being in use are:

1. target shooting
2. hunting
3. cleaning or maintenance
4. leaning against a tree or cabin wall while you're eating a meal.
5. predator control
6. sitting in a gun rack at night when it is not legal to hunt
7. being carried in the bush
8. at the ready for predator control
9. sitting on the dining room table

The key concept to understand is that when a gun is in storage or transportation mode, it may be left unattended. When a gun is in use, it must be under the care and control of an individual who possesses a firearms license.

Just for poops and giggles...........

Would it really be that hard to abstain from any of the recreational chemicals while at camp or holidaying with others?

I don't give two hoots(no pun intended) what you put in your body but it would be a rather small sacrifice out of respect for others.
