Most accurate out-of-box Precision rifle

I am impressed with the number of quarter to half minute rifles that can be purchased. I wasn't aware that there were so many out of the box opportunities.

Supershoot LV 200yards aggregate was 1/9-1/10 MOA

I'm very skeptical about out of box 1/4 MOA rifles since no manufactures that I know of give such a warranty and the performance warranties that I've read are all 1/2 MOA average for 5 shot groups.

Also, this year 200yards Light Varmint Supershoot aggregate was something like 1/9-1/10 MOA shot by the benchrest shooters using the best equipment, but Eric Stecker managed a 0.05" group at 100 yards but didn't win the aggregate.

My point is this: one tiny 3 shot group does not mean that a rifle can shot 1/2 MOA aggregates even less 1/4 MOA aggregates. I haven't run a simulation but I guess that 1 out of 30 groups will be extraordinary small (and 1 out of 30 groups will be twice that average size!).

Yes.
That's why I find all these 'net reports of these super accurate factory rifles so interesting.

Yes on all accounts. There will always be variability in tightness of 5 shot groups, and people often only post that "1 in 30" group. In addition, I sometimes feel skeptical about some of the .5 MOA 300+ meter groups with bone stock Rems and Savages that are occasionally posted -- though I am sure most nutters are honest.

To consistanly achieve very small groups - 5, or even better, 10 shot groups - at extended ranges, the shooter must be able to fire perfect shots, shot after shot.
The rifle and ammunition must be outstanding.
And the shooter must be able to read the wind.
I shot a 2 1/2" three shot group off the magazine at 500m with my AR while zeroing it. Its very pretty. But it doesn't mean a darn thing.

Thanks for all the feedback friends. I have checked my local gunshop and they can get the Savage 110BA in .338 LM in 4-6 weeks and the cost is 2,340 + taxes. How much does the Sako TRG cost?

Sako TRG22 (308 Win) is around 2600$-2900$
Sako TRG42 (338 Lapua Mag) is around 3400$

Make sure that you try one extensively before you buy, since the TRG42 is a beast (weight, recoil and concussion).
I planned on buying a TRG42 with my bonus but got tired of getting beat up by my brand new "low recoil" 13.5lbs 270WSM...

I own and shoot my 2 TRG-22 but i barely shot my TRG-42 338 LM it is not more accurate and it is not that comfortable to shot, the recoil is huge i dont use it much and regret buying it i am really the 308 guy... JP.

Where are you buying these TRG's for 2600-2900. I'll buy 2 right now. Mine was 3299 before taxes.Great rifle, 2nd best in my opinion is 5r. The first picture is at 110 yards with 5 shot groups with a 5R in its prime.Wish i never sold it. But in my opinion, any rifle can shoot 110 yards good. The true test is further out . I zero my rifles at 220 yards now. Still developing loads for the TRG, only 250 rounds through it, but here is one. In the 2nd picture, i was boasting to my friends that i got a load that will beat their "you know whats" in our little 5 dollar competitions we have and on the 5th shot i pulled it.Not bad for a factory rifle at 220 yards.Rather not bad for an expensive factory rifle at 220 yards. Both my 5R and TRG-22 were and are long range shooters. Furtherest with the 5r was 1160 yards on 8 inch balloons and the best with the TRG so far is 43 out of 45 on 8 inch balloons at 800 yards. These are great rifles. Buy one. As for the 1 in 30 post, my 5r was like this after 600 rounds and well into the 1000 rd when i sold it. Average though was 0.50-0.60 MOA at 110 yards. This is my best post with the TRG but i am still load developing and will hopefully get the load i want. My buddy has a TRG-22 and his load is great at 220 yards. Anywhere from 0.6-0.75 MOA. So i know they can do it consistently. Only limitation for most of these rifles is the shooter's skill. Most of these rifles will outshoot the skill of the shooter anyway. Expensive things just give people peace of mind, like myself.

If the original post person was interested in the TRG then i would recommend the phosphate finish instead of the blued version that the edmonton place has for 2995. Got pretty excited there for a second. VISA was just vibrating with excitement.Mine is the Stealth Black Finish. 3299.99. Another great factory rifle i've seen was the model 70 stealth. Not so sure about the customizing after fact but i've seen good results with that model and i believe you can find it under $1000.

Stay calm and don't forget that the TRG42 is not the most practical target or hunting rifle in the world.

TRG42 on special at Wolverine 3800$ right now!
I did a quick price check and it's 3500$ MSRP on Berretta USA's website.

Depends what your target is. The TRG line of rifles are used in target type shooting as well as being built from the ground up as a sniper rifle which makes them very versatile in my opinion. What makes it less practical than any other 338 et al that is used for hunting

"What makes it less practical than any other 338 et al that is used for hunting"

Weight, balance, mass, length. It may work for certain types of hunting, but would be a poor choice for a general purpose tool. I know, now 14 guys will weigh in with "I hunt with my 27 pound 6 ft long ultra super-duper whizz bang euro mag with no problem, you're a pussy". Guess I am. I don't pound nails with a chainsaw either. - dan

It does work for some types of hunting, nothing is a perfect solution. Everyone is different so to eliminate it as practical for hunting is premature. Different strokes for different folks.
