My factory hunting rifle shoots between .5"-.75" all day! Really? Prove it!

Ok. Let's see if I can get lightning to strike twice.
This is a similar challenge to the one I started in the precision rifle section. Here are the rules:

The rifle must be a factory hunting rifle with no major modifications.

The rifle must still have the factory barrel and stock.

No heavy barrels. All barrels must be "sporter" contour

**ALL GROUPS MUST BE UNDER .750"@ 100 yards/meters**

You must shoot 5 consecutive 3 shot groups on the same paper. There can't be any other groups on the "official" target.

There must not be anything on the target that could be hiding a failed attempt.

Your successful post must include the following:
A pic of the rifle and the rest that was used to shoot your targets

A pic of the target showing all successful groups with the group size beside the group

A pic of your smallest group with a set of calipers showing the group size.

-When measuring your groups be sure to measure the groups properly. This is a good example of how to measure your group. Measure the extreme outside spread of your group and then subtract the bullet diameter

Your post must include all 5 group sizes (as well as written on the target. Sometimes the writing is to small to read)

Have fun and be safe.

What you missed is what you're asking for is more about shooter ability than the rifle...

Cheers

I would go further and say no bench rest shooting; the shooter may use prone or one of the various seated positions, or whatever.

i see youve failed to realize the fact most people have nothing to prove to a random dude on the net, i wouldn't say theres lots of factory guns that shoot .5-.75 however i will say you should most likely define your factory designation as high end dakota, merkel, blaser, cooper, kimber, etc have all proven to be very good shooters and theyre all "factory" rifles, some are 2k some are 10k, also whay eliminate bench rest shooting? that is the bench mark that all shooting is based off of

Shooting off a bench is fine. However you can shoot from whatever position you like. Just remember to include it in your post of your attempt

As long as it is a factory rifle is all that matters.

Yeah, its a bench mark, and granted it takes the shooter out of the picture to see what the rifle can do (which is the point of these posted challenges), but I just don't find it interesting at all, because you can't take a bench with you into the field. Well, you could, but it would be a lot of work.

I think this challenge is a good idea. Lots of guys & some factory rifle makers say they get these results, so let's see 'em.
As a bonus, it would be nice to see which factory rifles out there do this.
Might help me decide on my next one.

Then, based upon your above statement & the header of your thread,
My stock factory hunting rifle shoots between .5"-.75" all day! Really? Prove it!

You need to change your challenge to; "I CAN SHOOT .5"-.75" groups with my hunting rifle all day... And I don't need sandbags, benches or any of that other stuff...

Cheers

It just might settle the Savage/Tikka debate

Well this effectively removes any of my firearms from both of the Accurate rifle threads.........

I don't own a single gun that meets the "accuracy challenge" criteria.....

Im not a BR shooter, so all of my varmit guns may hit a sub .5 MOA group regularly, but by no means "all the time". So they are out of the runnign in the Precision rifles forum. I was going to shoot some groups in any case, but it would have been entirely luck to get 5 in 5 @ .5, @ .6 maybe, @ .8 for sure......

Now theres an additional "accurate gun" thread in hunting rifles...... Only almost every single hunting rifle that I own that is capable of this kind of accuracy (sub .75 MOA "all day") are not 'factory' anymore..... They have aftermarket triggers, stocks, barrels or what have you. Maybe not all of the above, but at least one of the disqualifiers mentioned in the OP.......

It wouldn't be so bad, but I have 30 rifles that will shoot at least one prefered load into an inch (ish).......

If we were allowed after market stocks. I have at least 10 rifles that could meet the min requirement......

So I guess that means I'm out.........

Is .75" asking to much? I don't want it to be so easy that it isn't a challenge. That is why I figured that 3 shots under .75" would be a possible but challenging goal.

5 groups is a good idea, and 3 shot groups is just barely a group, I use 5 shot groups. Since it is -30 or colder right now, and I am short of powders, I won't post here for a while. But I am looking forward to see how many of my rifles will meet this challenge!

I hope this gets a sticky, and gets the fluff removed from the thread and everyone that claims they can meet the challenge is directed to this thread. This is a great idea!!
