My homemade $50 Canadian 10" gong and stand

Made the walk of shame through the snow down to my spot and took some photos for you Honda. Here is my steel set up for the 350 yard mark. 3 inch paddle for the hostage. Its all AR500 stuff, and I did the stand etc myself. The targets I got were from http://www.steeltargets.ca/. I have a 2inch paddle I use sometimes as well for inside 300. Lots of ways to make these, this is just how I did it.

Great guy to deal with ships to your door.

For my spot where I can shoot out to 1500 if I want ( I usually go 700- 1000 and check dope on different days) I made this gong set up. Just 2X4's and bungie cords. I like the bungie cords cause they don't break if you hit them, they are cheap, and LIGHT! I just hide all my gear off in the bush and leave it there, friends all know where it is and they are welcome too use it as well.

Thanks a bunch, gives me some great starting points! Next time you find yourself down in this neck of the woods, give me a shout and i'll take you out for a beer for your snow walking troubles! Especially how chilly it looks!

Brother in law lives in Langdon, so I know you guys get your ####ty weather lol, but yeah I'll give you a buzz and we can go for a few next time I'm down.

Fantastic ideas from all of you. Now you got my creative juices going. I particularly like the bungee cord idea since they are light and inexpensive, easily replaceable also comes to mind. Now I prefer to have that plate angled downwards like the OP so bullet spatter is redirected to a safe direction. :)

Thanks for all the super ideas! They are greatly appreciated!

Cheers and keep on helping them noobs out there! ;)

Poppers are AR500 from the same guy, and I just welded a grade 8 1/2 bolt onto it. For the tube that it fits into I used 1/2 pipe. Any pipe nipple will do. Trick is to have it angled down a little so when it swings and stops its stays where it should.

I managed to get out this weekend and do some shooting. The 10" one stood strong no problem. The mini ipsc torso does not have enough weight and went flying bringing down the saw horse. It did hold up really well at 24 yards with the .22. Might keep the mini for .22 and the 10" for the long bombers.

I heard if u replace the chains with old seatbelts that they can take multiple rounds before they break. I'm going to grab a few next time at junkyard and try it out. Is that the trail 13 pits by chance? I was going to drive out there and wondering if the roads good right now.

Cut some wide strip of rubber floor or better yet cut some strips of mud flap from off a big rig. Chain and rubber straps suck as eventually they are going to break.

rd 13 is awesome. I think the loggers have been plowing it can take a car down it no problem. Think I might try the seat belt thing or the rubber bungee cords I heard work good too. I picked up 20 chain link connectors today from princess so i'm good for a bit. I switched from 140gr to 150gr that day. Serves me right for sighting in on the gongs lol.

I hang my steel with 3/8'' galvanized cabe. They have taken direct hits from 400gr hard cast 45/70 rounds at 100m as well as 300gr 338 lapua rounds at 1000m. There is some wear and tear but I have yet to break one. No idea whats the cable is worth but it's saved me running downrange to fix my targets.

I was looking at the Cable at princess auto wondering about its strength. After my chains are all quick links I might try this

I picked up a sawhorse yesterday and put things all together when I got home.
Total cost was $30 for sawhorse, chain, quick-links (with a couple of spares), carriage bolts, washers and nuts. Bought it all at Canadian Tire
I already had a 10" gong from my Caldwell setup. I have to figure out how to hang my 6" gong now. It's currently set up with a single length of chain welded to the top to hang it from a support.
