My rifle shoots 1/2" groups @100 yards all day! Really? Prove it.

But with all the claims I have read on the interweb.................where are those winchester white box guys.............

On my last attempt I tried some 55gr white box just for giggles and the best I got was ~1.25 :), but I don't boast on the webs. ;)

Thanks Underthegun, your challenge has taught me more in the last month than I learnt all last year. The "list" has been keeping me awake at night ;).

I tried some WWB 45 JHP the other day. Shot 4 groups and averaged under .7". Not good enough yet, but better than the two different reload recipes I tried the same day. 700 SPS Varmint in 223, home bedding job.

great shooting Tomochan now holding the smallest overall average.

i'm looking into trying this with my own rifle now, I know I can do it!

good job everyone.

hunter benchrest is shot with a maximum of 6 power scopes......and they turn in some impressive scores, I have also seen guys shoot equally well with peep sites..........so to answer your question.........12 power is more then enough at 100 yards.........some people use fixed 10 power out to 1000.....just depends on the size of the target really

Thanks - I'm sure you will gain the title back ! To be honest my hats off to the guy ( Toolman I think it was ) who did it with a .308 - kinda shames me into trying with my Coyote but, heck, it was hard enough with a 6mmBR :)

I have got a couple PM's from people concerned about the way some people are measuring their groups. Even though it is the way most people measure their groups I figured I would post this pic of the proper way to measure the group. I usually start by turning the target over and folding the holes back into position so that there is I nice defined bullet outline to measure. This is also easier to see when your group is all in the "white". Your calipers should be right on the edge of the black "skid mark" that was left by the bullet. After you measure this extreme spread you then subtract the bullet diameter to get your center to center measurement.

I am posting this in all three "challenge" threads to hopefully help resolve any group measuring disputes. Thanks Rod

The way I look at it from a picture, is you shouldn't be able to fit 2 bullet diameters between the 2 farthest shots, even if you're shooting 17cal and call it 1/2".
Pretty well all the groups that passed without question had all the holes at least touching at the edges, and not much paper at all in between if 1 hole was a little off.

I really look forward to trying it at spring time, gotta do a fair bit of tweaking to the rifle first once everything comes in for it.
Congrats to all the guys who passed it, and to the great attempts as well.

also to add the the way of finding out your group size, with digital calipers it is even easier.....

step 1: mic the bullet you are using

FCD87BB5-61A1-4C2E-8A97-19091447D8C8-15183-00000F163E295178_zps69dcf595.jpg

step 2: reset the "Zero"

now all your measurements will have the diameter of the bullet already subtracted.

I tried again, and I think I was sold a defective rifle....
26 inch shillen select match 223. 7 twist barrel, savage model 12 action, rifle basix 2 trigger, yodave laminate benchrest stock, rifle set up for single shot only, weaver t36 scope bushnell 4x4 rings.

Using Winchester brass, federal 205m primers 25.5gr of varget pushing a 53gr V-Max bullet, I'm thinking i'll come back and play with the load a bit......

Fred, Your bench position doesn't make for much support. Try setting up along side the table and more beside the rifle, this may be better than across the table. Your rifle may not be defective, but picnic bench position is.

That's why you should only buy rifles that have successfully completed the challenge. Lol. But on the otherhand they might get pretty expensive.

unfortunatly I didn't shoot from that postition in the photo today, I was setup at a propper bench... I would love to be able to lay the blame on that, that was just the only pic I had of that rifle setup.

Looks like a lot of vertical stringing, try working on the load as you mentioned and see what you can get from that, not convinced your riflr likes the load your feeding it.
