NEA/BCL 102 FAQ Thread

Incase you haven't observed yet, nobody has one so its a tad premature to ask a lot of technical questions. Email NEA directly...

The entire point of this thread is to create a source of information for these kind of questions.

NEA would not have this information. They are responsible for production, not orders.

It's clear that ryan is browsing this thread and other 102 threads. I could email him directly, but then the answer would be lost to anyone else wondering the same thing.

To be clear, the "answer" others have provided to the question of availability of components is not "no ETA" it's "no comment".

It would make sense within the next year or so that they would start coming out with uppers in different configurations (caliber, barrel profile, colour, etc) as the market will demand it. It seems pretty common sense to me. I think they will wait until demand tapers off some before doing so though.

Awesome thread man, thanks for doing this driller212!

A suggestion if I may.

Maybe add compile some of the new questions into the original post?

That way, when this thread becomes 87 pages long, people won't be asking the same questions over and over again, despite being answered on page 3, lol!

Some other questions that popped up here so far the ones that you answered already..

So what parts inter change?
Trigger groups and stocks. The rest is unknown.

Will it come with a forward assist? Is a forward assist really needed?
No it does not, and no it is not needed at all.

How dirty does the action get from the gas system?
Dirty enough that it must be maintained every few hundred rounds (preferably less) for reliable operation.

Is a guy stuck using upper parts from NEA or does an upper casting exist from elsewhere that can be built to fit and function with the lower?
The NEA receiver design is proprietary.

So any ar-15 trigger group will work?
From what I understand, yes. If you can wait a couple of weeks I will be installing my trigger tech and I can let you know if it works or not.

When will additional uppers be available?
There is no ETA

Does it use an existing or proprietary barrel design?
No one knows for sure, however NEA claims it is proprietary.

Does anyone know where these are made? Built assembled in Canada or??
Made in Canada...

And some other good information:

Weight Comparision
nea102 - 18.5" - 8.9lb
sr25 e2 apr - 20" - 10.5lbs
sr25acc - 16" - 8.4lbs
S&W m&p10 - 18" - 7.7lb
dpms g2 recon - 16" - 8.5lb
sig716 dmr - 16" - 8.5lbs

And for those nervous about having some confusion on whether it is classified as restricted or non restricted:

Great thread! Looking at the photos, it looks like the mag release would be interchangable. Wheb you recieve your rifle can you please confirm, i'd like to add an ambi mag release.
Thanks!

Which parts/components aren't manufactured in Canada? Just a thought: maybe color the sub-titles of any new information when you update the OP.

Answer has been added to the original post. In short, we don't know. We do know for sure that the receivers, handguard, and bolt carrier are made in house.

As far as I know, NEA is in Kirkland Lake Ontario Canada. Inquiries can me made at sales@northeasternarms.com whether they reply or not is a different story.

On there website they say this is specific to the NEA-15 but who knows it may apply to the NEA 102 as well.

"- Q: Are your rifles 100% made in Canada?
- A: Our rifles are designed, engineered, manufactured and assembled in Canada using Canadian Machinery and Canadian Labor. We manufacturer all components of our rifles in house with the exception of parts kits components, stocks and grips."

Thank you for the thread. Haven't chimed in at all, but I have a pre-order on the second batch in ODG. Super excited and cannot wait to get it!

I kinda like BCL better, rolls off the tongue nicely. A new logo would be sweet but I also don't mind the one they have now. If they came out with a new logo would it make the BCLs with the Griffin collectors? Lol

The FAQ posted is basically the description from my website. There is no secrecy...it's right in the items description.

Hmm, so obviously there was some secrecy and possibly some deception lol, you are definitely a business man :p

Thread updated with: The buffer tube thread is the same as a mils spec ar and the front thread for the barrel nut is 1-7/16 x 18 UNEF-2B

Thanks to slim123 for this info.

I am sure there will be some happy campers out there to hear this. These rifles will look nice with an A2 stock :)
