Meh, as long as there's .308 brass around .358 is a stroke of the press away. If you have to resize .338 Light, you can just as easily make .358 Win, and likely for less too.

I was referring to factory .338 sourced brass mentioned. Point is there's really no reason in suggesting the availability of factory brass is an advantage over the .358, unless of course you don't reload.

However being able to use pistol bullets in the .358 does open up it's range of use. You can plink with the lighter pistol bullets, use relatively flat shooting 180gr-225gr bullets, and load up with the heavier fodder if need be.

I just don't see the quantum leap by going .338. It fills such a skinny viod between the .308 and .358 there's really not much point, much like the 7mm-08 (though it can be argued it has use in countries that prohibit the use of military cartridges) being such a small step with better options both sides like the .308 and .260.

.338 Federal, interesting yes, quantum leap hardly.

RIGHT! ....

And furthermore, that skinny void between the 338 and 358 is pretty much non existent. So much so that to suggest that the 338Federal improves upon the 358Win is laughable and the scribblings of trolls.

Now there's a creditable fill for the calibre gap between 308 and 358 Win. Or, go for something a little older as I did, 348 WCF.

actually the 338f is an improvement because it fits in a short action rifle and burns about 25% less powder.

2500 fps with a 225gr bullet this morning in the 358IMP, with both H4895 and RL15. BC .484

do that with a 358 :)

Less calories, less filling. 3 oz less weight, 1/2" in action length. Ya-hoo...

You after "efficiency" or results? ;) Try a lightweight X in a 30-30, you might love it.


P.S. Has it occurred to anyone this is the old 300 Savage vs 30-06 argument? Course those guys were doing it 90 years ago...
