Well I had my 870 Wingmaster re-verified and re-registered with a 14" barrel today.

My verifier said the conversation came up about only the 870 Police has a factory option of the 14" barrel. After a talk with some kahuna at the CFC it was agreed that while the Wingmaster does not come with the 14" barrel as a factory option, a factory 14" Remy barrel will indeed fit the Wingmaster and still meets all criteria of a non-restricted firearm.

It was decided to come up with a new FRT number to designate the 870 Wingmaster with a 14" Remington barrel.

As of today FRT# 38294-56 designates the wingmaster with a 14" Remy barrel.

Hope this helps any of you doing the same.

I wonder if the Express has it's own 14'' version?

The express HD has an 18 inches barrel which is less than 470mm. (18.5)

Registration cards only says over or under 470mm. So basically swapping a 14 inches or 12.5 inches on an express shouldnt matter.

I didn't think you'd have to re-register. What if you put a 28" on it to go hunting, would you re-register it again? I'm lost as to why you'd re-register at all, unless the class of firearm had changed, which it shouldn't with a factory barrel.

Enlighten me?

I'd also love to know where you can find a 14" barrel, if anyone can help.

I bought a complete brand new 870 clone from Ellwood Epps in Orillia, Norinco HP9-1 with a 14" barrel for $350.00 + tax and shipping, and the 14" barrel can be used on my express also. :D

BUM, I think the reasoning is that on "normal" rifle/shotgun resistration certificate, it says the barrel is 470mm or longer, which is at least 18.5 inches.

Well the 14 inchers (or any factory 18 inch ones) are LESS than 470mm, thus the changing of the certificates.

Wow, nice job getting that done, as well as for posting the info. I wonder how a parkerized Wingmaster reciever is going to look to match my already parkerized 14" barrel? :)

Again, this news/info IS greatly appreciated.

Thanks to NaOH for doing that. To carry it one step further I called CFC and spoke to their firearms tech regarding the 12.5" Dlask barrels. They didn't have that combination registered in the system...but as of today they now have two new FRT #s:

FRT# 37269-19 Remington 870 Express with 12.5" barrel
FRT# 122742-8 Remington 870 Police Magnum with 12.5" barrel

Apparently you just need to put in a request to Amend your registration certificate to account for the new short barrel.

And thanks to Dean at Dlask I have one coming to me to torture test :D :D

Cheers

I can tell the CFC is gonna love the 12" barrel's if/when Dlask(?) ever get's around to producing them.

Dealt with as of yesterday, see my post above....that is ...unless you want to put one on a Marine Magnum.

Cheers

There is no requirement to notify the CFC of a barrel length change unless it affects it's class eg. non-restricted to restricted. Look on your registration certificate (the whole page) for what the CFC needs to be notified about.
