NEW ITEM: Dominion Arms Socom 18

I notice a lot of people on here already own the M305 platform, whats the best option for a scope mount? Arms 18? Or M14.ca mount? Do both let you remove the bolt while attached? The m14.ca chasm mount seems strange to me, only one place of attachment, but does anyone have experience with it?

If you want to retain your iron sights get the ARMS , if you dont care about losing your rear iron sight get the m14.ca .. sometimes people have ejection issues using the ARMS because its so low but this is usually fixed by changing the ejector spring in the bolt to a USGI one .

I have it (M14.ca CASM Gen II) and IMO it's the best option available. Yes the bolt is still removable with the mount on and you get away from the case jamming that can happen with the ARMS 18.

Did you go with the Steel or Aluminum mount? Interested in feedback if the difference in $$ between mounts is warranted.

I just went Aluminium. I can't imagine it getting banged up enough to warrant steel. It doesn't serve a purpose like a one piece base would in stiffening the action and very solidly built. To each their own obviously but for me the aluminium was definitely sufficient.

The ARMS 18 is been giving me rock solid zero holding, this is the most important thing for me, others could be good but i wont chance it... JP.

I think we should all pitch in and send Hungry or M14doc to the factory in China so they can hold a clinic there and whips these commies into shape.

Too bad the "commies" are teens ####ing around in shop class pumping out our beauty Norcs.
Im making a few shirts this weekend
"Norinco, proud supporter of chinese shop class"
any buyers ???? :)

So im picking up a shorty tom, i know somewhere in this tread is a chaeck list of what to look for. I cant find it lol

anyone want to reiterate a check list of what to look for ie: indexing and such???

Any stovepipes with that #18?

One of my Socom 18 is set up with the Arms 18, Hilux CMR scope mounted, only changed the op rod spring guide for one of the SA NM M1A, grease her good, and got 100 copper wash 147 gr out of it yesterday afternoon at the farm.... Perfect operation, no failures, very loud but easy shooting set up scope is roughly zero on the picnic table, i was hiiting all the pop bottles and diet coke cans... One set up, will fine tune @ the range.... 2 to go... JP.

I went to pick up a Socom yesterday but ended up liking the feel of the 22" - couldn't decide which to get so I just got both...oops. They're going to be a great into to the world of the M14/M305.

The flash hider on my Socom was cleanly threaded and hand tight.

Just tried my SOCOM not good :( Light primer strikes 90% of the time ? firing pin appears to be floating fine , hammer seems to be dropping hard ? I will have to take a closer look tonight and try my trigger group from my other m14 i guess , it must be the trigger group or the bolt ? unless the stock is somehow interfering with the hammer slowing it down ?? any ideas?

Got mine today and i am impressed as well.

Indexig seems good from whqt i can tell. Op rod dosnt line up perfectly with the gas block so ill have to find a way to fix that.
Action seems nice though.

Only question pertains to something random i noticed.

I can take a pic if its uncommon or an issue. Seems to be cosmetic to me. So its located under the stock where the op rod meets the gas block. On the outer right of the gas block tube (the half inside the stock) it has a index fingerprint sized layer of solder i believe? Again just cosmetic it seems so no panties in a bunch but just curious why its there. Again if too confusing ill post pictures. Inside of the gas block where the piston travels looks fine so i sont think its a patch job.

Excited to get her out to the range. Halfway through the dripping oil.

When you have light strikes, it's the bolt fully into battery?

Yes i made sure to check that , im going to take it to the range tomorrow and swap parts from my other m14 to see if i can narrow it down .. One thing noticed on this one is the bolt seems to be way looser than my other m14s when locked into battery on a empty chamber. there is way more gap between the lugs on the bolt and lugs on receiver, has twice as much play back and forth , wondering if there could be a headspace issue too ?
