A hand selected option would be nice, if it was not too expensive, like 15-25$, that way, those of us that are hesitant to buy based on those defects would be sure to get one ready to shoot out of the box.

I hope not. If they sold me the gun it must have been deemed in sellable condition, so if it shows up euchered I think they should take it back. I assume that portion is for if somebody tried to modify or bubba the gun, messed up, then wanted to get a refund.

Having to pay return shipping is for minor things like an ugly finish on the receiver. Actual defects that impair operation or safety I think are considered "a warrantable issue" and will be taken care of free of charge.

The way I take it the warranty is to cover factory defects not protect you from an ugly duckling.

I got mine last week. Just pulled it apart cleaned it and greased it wow there was oil every where. I will get it to the range this week. Will be my first semi auto rifle fingers crossed no issues.
 
Out of index isnt warrantable. That question has come up before. And CanadaAmmo sells the gun in fired condition bc they are allegedly proofed at the factory.

On a rifle with an entry level price, cosmetic issues are bound to happen, now if it would make me sick to see a scratch, some tooling marks or a slight indexation, i would gladly pay 35-40.00 to ship it back, at least an option exist... JP.
 
For those looking for a higher level of quality, I suggest you wait until the next batch with the price increase. We will be holding the factory to a higher standard as a condition of the increase.
 
The finish on the rifle I sent back was fine but the indexing was too tight, out by about 10 degrees and the rear sight aperture was not centered .

I received mine over a week ago. When I opened the package, the plastic bag at the front sight was previously cut open - sure looked like someone had a look at this one before it was shipped - maybe one of a random sample that was inspected ? Everything seems in order - indexing looks decent and gas cylinder lock is very tight at 6 o'clock. The operating rod is 'noticably looser' in the closed and open position than my M305 M1A (I swapped them to compare and confirmed the Socom op rod is noticably looser/ has more play - not sure if this is an issue yet), and the bolt is very tight in the rear-most position when working the action but that should break-in with some shooting. I have not fired it yet.

Thanks for your post on the quality issues at the factory, I appreciate it, and will wait the year for the next batch, even if it means a slightly higher price. I know many enjoy tinkering with the M305. I would much rather a rifle that was "out of the box" good to go, less accessories which are a personal choice anyways.

Just got my socom this morn. Ordered on the 6th.
Flash hider came off easily. Mags work perfectly. Chamber and action are fine. Sights align perfectly. Overall looks great.
Very happy with CanAm. I think it's an awesome gun and hope to prove it at the range tomorrow.
It's unfortunate that some people are experiencing issues because it's potentially scaring off M14 noobs.

It's not an American made M14 for $2,000 but that's also not what you should expect.
I drive a Ram, I don't expect to beat a Porsche panmera! Lol

Well put. I'm happy with mine for the price point. I didn't get into them with the intention of comparing them to my Daniel Defense rifles or STI 1911's for fit and finish. I look at them in the same way I look at CZ 858's...no one says anything about finishing, off center sights and milling marks there. The cool thing about the M305 is most of the issues are easily tweakable.

I just got back from the range.

I had just one mechanical problem and it shot OK. But I wanted to share a warning!

Be sure to do a thorough job of removing all that oil. Apparently, there was a fair amount lurking underneath the rear sight assembly that flew into my face on recoil. This oil stayed there despite the rifle's few days in my safe, standing on its butt. Good thing I was wearing my eye protection.

The mechanical problem was with the mags and/or the mag catch. One of the engaging surfaces is oversized, preventing the magazine catch from locking the mag into place. Sometimes I thought my magazine was in all the way, only to have it come loose under recoil. In hopes of solving this I filed a hair off the bottom of the locking plate welded to one of the mags and that made a drastic improvement. I didn't want to mess with the catch in case I buy more mags.

If anyone has experience with this issue and a fix for it, I am all ears. This is my first M14 experience.

OH! I also wanted to add that the rifle shot much tighter groups with the flash hider reversed than it did with the brake forward.
 
Mine just came today. Ordered on the 7th. A few observations on never having one before.. Everything in the package was sealed, nothing previously opened. A light coat of oil was on everything with 3 oil 'rag bags' tied to the trigger guard and front/rear sling. A very slight amount of glue on the stock around the bolt on the side. Nothing major that some solution cannot remove. The finish looks really clean. The flash suppressor came off with hand pressure, nothing major required. Time to strip it and clean it. One item of note, the front site is set for windage all the way to the right of the block. when looking at the feedramps, the barrel appears to be ever so slightly offset, meaning the rib inbetween the ramps is slanting on the right side of the oprod guide ( a few MM to the one side as opposed to be dead center). It looks just over enough that would cause the front site have to be adjusted as it was. Other then that, action is smooth. Very happy with the product for what I paid ;).
