New pistol grip and forend for my Vz58s!

That scope is worth more then 3x vz58s. Its the latest Loepold multi eye relief 8-14 power unit. Very nice and very spendy, I'll sell you one if you like but you'll have to put up your first born.

Ryushi,

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is the scope you have mounted on that rail. Clearly, it must be something with long eye relief.

Thanks,
FB

Its a Tasco Red dot, Aimpoint clone. The real Aimpoint is on the AR15. It has no magnification.

OK.
I've been giving the scope issue some thought, as I have both a 58 with folding buttstock and an 858.

The 858 is out-of-the-box stock, and is a much nicer rifle to shoot at longer distances. I keep imagining some kind of mount that would allow mounting a scope with at least moderate magnification. Even a Ghost Ring style sight, or a set of peeps like a BRNO model 4 would be better than the stock sights. My eyes seem older than the rest of me some days.

The 58, on the other hand, gives me a bit more of a problem with accuracy at distances over 50 meters. As it's already black with the synthetic "rubberized" furniture, seems like a good candidate for a 1X red dot or holo-type sight.

I love these rifles, especially the 858, and I think that even moderately good optics would be a worthwhile addition. Maybe a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50 for the 858, LOL.

Thanks for the info on the Zahal fore-ends. I may give that route a try on one of them, anyhow.

Thanks, I'll await the results with interest.

My -58 actually says "CZH2003 Sport". I don't know the provenance of it, except that it had two previous owners, one of whom put 200 rounds through it and a second who put less than 20 through it. He did re-do the whole thing with black Dura-Coat and put on very a very nice black synthetic pistol grip and upper-lower fore-end, as well as a factory folder. (I know I've seen the name of the maker of this furniture - US maker I believe - but I can't remember it right now).

I had a long read through the big thread last night, and a lot of people claim that that the -58 is more accurate than the -858. So far, that's not my experience, but with some adjustment and practice, we'll see.

I never did find out the end result of the "Marshall Rail" project, as I fell asleep after about 100 pages.

Sure is a cool-looking piece, though. Just the kind of thing to irritate Liberals everywhere. :D

i bought a couple things from zahal and their service and response time is great. Shipping to anywhere in the world for smaller items is $3

Getting back to the scope issue. Assuming that a person gets the 4-rail fore-end, or does the do-it-yourself mod of adding a weaver or picatinny rail to the stock fore-end upper, what are some reasonable scope options?

A red-dot 1X is certainly something that would be useful for house-clearing, but I'm thinking some magnification would be nice for the range, or hunting.

My knowledge of long eye-relief scope is just about zero, and most everyone I talk to seems more concerned with how "tactical" their unit looks than with how it shoots. (This seems to be a common disease with a small percentage of black-rifle fans, LOL).

Is there a reasonably priced long-eye relief option that someone can recommend, just to try the idea out? Buying a VZ-58 and a CZ-858 in the same month has just about broken the bank, but it would be nice to experiment with something modest until the cookie jar fills up again.

I'd ask this question in the optics section, except that people already laugh at me for using a Bushnell Banner on my gopher rifle and making a bench rest out of 2x4. Apparently for some a Leupold VX-III is the bottom of the barrel. (I wish). To me, experimentation and improvisation are all part of the fun.

rifle scope shop.com sells NC star in Canada and honors the warranty. I have had good luck with them. The first scope I received was bad but I called them and within 3 days I had a new one and it works great.

Impressive in terms of attachment strength. Still reminded me of a Transformers commercial, though.

Well It arrived today.... 3 weeks exactly... Great looking, packed in a very large bubble wrap envelope. I didn't see any instructions but it wasn't hard to install. The pistol grip didn't come with a screw to fit into the original block (I blame that on Canada customs who opened all the packages...WTF for? oh yea $17 customs duty) I made a bolt from a 1/4" coach bolt approx 1 1/4" long with lock washer and nut. Fit really well and tight. The pistol grip is awesome and with me an my large hands it fits better than the red grip.

The forearm bottom was easy to install. just punch the pin out and fit it in. Fit really snug but not too tight. The hand guard uses the original steel from the CZ hand guard, all you need to do is bend the tow middle taps up and rotate the original out and off, the new one fits in snug. Remember to get the front to the front and not backwards, it will not fit.

**Don't worry about loose hand guards, the FAB guard is well made and is tight and has Zero movement.

Wow, put them together and I love this little rifle more, My oldest girl came and wanted to see it...

I'll post some picts later.

Peter

you got ding with duty ? so you only save $10 . hmmmm i wonder if its worth going all the way to israel to save $10 .

Better customer service... Uh yeah... customs is also not consistent, 1 in 5 shipments.

Ah yes, so if you find $10 on the side walk your going to pass it up right and ignore it RIGHT?!?:D

How does this upper handguard fit tight? Is that dependant on how tight the original upper metal fits or is the new one designed to sit on top of the new lower tight? Can pics of this be had?
