New SK trespassing laws coming soon

So by that logic the handgun ban will only affect those illegally accessing guns.

Don't want to be affected don't illegally access guns.

You making a random BS straw man is not "logic" LOL

Just like "the land" is not yours, and you are not entitled to use private land without permission no matter how much you want to. Moving the onus to the trespasser to prove he has permission does nothing but make your property rights more robust.

?WTF?
So you're good with me entering your apartment whenever I wish to, as long as I wipe my shoes and treat it like I own it?
I'm sorry, but I don't get it......but as long as you do....

You are correct, you don’t get it. It’s got nothing to do with your apartment. It does have to do with Saskatchewan landowners and their traditional and respected relationship with hunters. The law as it exists was enacted to allow hunters and game management to manage the number of deer to minimize impact on farmers by overpopulation and crop destruction. It’s worked well, for the most part, and has resulted in the best “book” deer in the world. The number of farmer complaints, in my area, is minimal to nonexistent about hunters at least, mostly due to me being in one of the zones that restricts vehicles to roads unless retrieving legally killed big game. Sounds like ruts and off-road hunters is an issue in some areas, maybe that’s an easier fix than destroying the long term relationship that exists? Since serm started actively prosecuting off-road hunters in my zone several years ago, the number of driveby hunters has dropped to near zero. I’m more worried about thieves than hunters, I think there are laws on the book that cover that.
If you’ve got 20 sections that you post, and you are paying $20 per sign, you’ve got more acres than brains, wtf? You can buy metal signs for under $6 a piece...
And I sure as hell hope you have the fortitude to stand by your convictions and never apply for predation cash for geese or deer from the government. I’d be pissed to give you my hard earned $ so you could claim your right to every living thing on your land.
Farmers and hunters in Saskatchewan have always had a good relationship, a few idiots as in life, nothings perfect. I guess I take the long view, less hunters, less interest in hunting/firearms, we are f*****.
If you are serious about your no trespassing update, couple of things need to happen:
Every piece of land needs an active contact. Phone number, no corporate names
Rm maps need to be available online, at no cost, with the above for all parcels

And as an addition, any landowner who refuses hunters on their land is not eligible for crop insurance/government cash for crop destruction by wildlife...

Great posts Skhunter and PeaceRiver

There are already enough rules/laws in place. Anymore will only affect the law abiding hunters and landowners.

Both laws will criminalize those who do no damage.

G'morning. (I think you meant to reply to someone elses quote, not mine, by the content.)

Good for you ! If we all took care of our land like that there would be far fewer trespassing scum. I put trespassers in the same category as common sneak thieves. Nice to see the new $1000 fine kick in.

Two more in the local court news . Two guys illegally shot a deer from a roadway . Fined $500.00 each for illegally shooting the deer and $1,000.00 each for trespassing . I was just told that in the Fort Francis court which also covers the Rainy River District the minimum fine now is $1,000.00 for trespassing .

Nope

As it currently is, both punish people who own property for things people who don't own the property do. The change removes penalties from the owner. The fact that still think you are entitled to anyone's property is still hilarious and more in line with your hand gun ban "logic" than anything LOL

Putting the onus on the hunter to seek permission to access private property will absolutely not criminalize anyone. What a ridiculous statement.

I do not see the problem with having to ask permission first to hunt on private land. I have been on both sides as a landowner and a hunter. Up here we have a regular elk season that starts Sept 15th so you get a bunch of morons from out of town chasing elk through standing and swathed fields, people cutting fences and leaving gates open. It gets to be a real gong show especially when you find bullet holes in your combine or semi. Now everyone is posting there land and not letting out of towners hunt on it. It's too bad it ruins it for the good hunters but people are fed up.

Ya in WMZ 48 it’s insane. The amount of truck hunters is ridiculous.

So the guy worth 20 million dollars is crying about $4000.00?

The amount of land or money someone has is completely irrelevant. That's $4000 and quite a few hours wasted because self entitled idiots can't spend some of their precious time seeking the owner and permission. A landowner has already put in the time and money to secure the land so they should not be expected to waste time and money with signage.

There shouldn't even be a need for "No Trespassing" signs anywhere as it's such an easy concept to grasp. Ask when using something that isn't yours. We're taught this as children.

Really. So right now it is not an offence to access unposted private land without permission.

If the law changes the person who accesses private land is now a criminal even though he isn't doing anything any different than he has in the past.

Hopefully they got 5 or 10 year license suspensions for shooting the deer as well.

If the law changes the person who trespasses is now a criminal. The law abiding hunter that received permission to access is not.
