Hello everyone,
After reading for a while on this forum, I decided to join and here's my first post!
I just put a deposit on a Sterling Arms PCC R9. There's not much you can buy these days and I'd like to find an activity to do with my son. 9mm sounds fun and still "cheap" to operate so I went for it. There's lots of other models that were on my list but ya, there's nothing much else to buy so... Anyways it looks PROMISING and it's Canadian based too.

So my question, since I'm new to PCC, is what kind if scope you guys would recommend? I'd like to spend 4 to $500 max. Newbie questions are, is it just a red dot carbine or can I put a scope on it and if so how many times it should be on a PCC? Or better with a red dot combined with a 3x magnifier?

Thanks in advance! Cheers

you can put a scope on a 9mm PCC if you want, just be aware that you'll need to buy scope rings/mount on top of the cost of the scope. the accuracy of the 9mm PCCs I've owned starts to fall apart past ~75y, and I wanted to keep things light, so I personally stuck with red dots - Vortex UH1, Holosun 515 etc.
if you are thinking of a scope consider sticking to a LPVO (1-4x, 1-6x). some that are close to you budget include the Arken EP8 and Primary Arms 1-6 w/Nova reticle (red dot bright). at 1x you can shoot with both eyes open like a red dot.
if I were to get another PCC someday I'd seriously consider going with a microprism, either 1x or 3x. they act like a red dot with illumination turned on, have really good eye relief/eyebox, lightweight, but they have an etched reticle that doesn't depend on a battery. the one that comes to mind is the Primary Arms SLX 9mm version, last I checked Marstar had them in stock.

I can't thank you enough for all that information, truly appreciate it. I wasn't sure about the distance, now I know what to expect. And I was debating between red dot or scope and I'm tempted to follow your recommendations and I'll look into the primary arms slx. Thanks for taking the time!

Ya and you are the second one mentioning it. Really appreciate it guys that's what I needed. Cheers
I had one of them on an ar, when I sold it I took er off and put it on 12 gauge it’s a tough little optic and an etched reticle is great if you have a stigmatism also real nice that you don’t have to worry about the battery dying. You can also always throw a magnifier in front of it too PA also makes one that’d be perfect.

Yes the more I read about it and also because I'm not getting younger, etch reticle might be the best option. I'm tempted by a magnifier too but I'll try without it first. Thanks a lot!

I have the Green Gemini for mine ... these are great sights for up to 100yds, was on my Keltec
I was wondering about that actually. As a contractor, I use red laser inside and green laser outside. I've never looked into a green dot before. Any advantages over red just like level laser?

I find green easier to pick up. Given the choice I will always go with green but I do have a couple of red optics too.

Where you shoot may sway your decision. If you mostly shoot in green fields then a green dot may not be the best choice (you get the idea)

I would also go with a dot as opposed to LPVOs (and I love LPVOs).

Honestly an LPVO would be overkill on a PCC.

I have moved almost exclusively to Holosun dots (in green) and really like them. Price is good and they have a bunch of different options but after trying a few I gravitated towards the models with the larger windows (ie 507 Comp & 510C).

510C has a MASSIVE window and is ready to mount on picatinney, I personally found it to be the perfect height for me, downside is it has limited reticle options (you can toggle between the circle / circle and dot / dot only).

507 Comp needs a picatinney adaptor to mount it on a PCC (~$30), has a big window but has a huge selection of reticle options you can toggle between (I personally like the combination that are around 8MOA but you can go to something smaller if you prefer as it will make distance shots easier)

Food for thought. I see lots of people running these on PCC but they can easily be repurposed to handgun / shotgun / whatever.

Yep I get the idea and it makes sense. It must be a tad easier on the eye too no?

Yes definitely food for thoughts and I thank you for that. I'll look into those as well thanks for the recommendation. I think you're right and seems like everyone thinks that way too, a 1x dot is the way to go. I'm glad that part is sorted out. Good progress. I'll look into the 510C and compared with the other suggestion.
Thanks for your time, cheers

I had a red dot on my jrc9 and found even with a 3moa dot it covered to much of the target for precise aiming. Ok for slapping steel and wasting ammo but when I wanted to hit smaller targets I just couldn't see the target under the dot. I switched to a Leopold 1-5x20 and love it. I can take the head off a grouse now while hunting and hit empty 12ga casings at 100m as well
I'm slowly converting all my red dots to lpvo

Not a bad option to get started at a good price - could save the change for ammo/magnifier/optic upgrade later down the road. Always good to have a spare around in any case!

I have a 3x prism on my PCC but would prefer either a 1x or red dot (possibly with magnifier), as I find it a more versatile setup.
It's not a bad option and I agree with you that keeping a budget for ammo and upgrade is wise.

Like you mentioned, a combo dot + magnifier is versatile and definitely something I'm looking into.
