Yup, you read that right, I'm done ! It only need a couple of coats of linseed oil, and it will be ready to shoot.
First I removed the reinforce piece from the old stock, and I fitted it on the new one
Next to do was to fit the sling swivel on the buttstock. As per my habits, I used the fostner bit, with a bit of chisel work
Next and last, I shaped the wood with the hand-held grinder with a 60 grit sandpaper. Got to go slow on this. Also a bit of rasp workk was necessary to do the interior of the "handle" on the buttstock
Here is a pic with the parts I used as reference, and a pic of the completed woodset, before finish.
I'll post pics when the finish is applied
I would like to thanks all of you how followed this thread. Thanks to Louthepou for measurements, to Goldidig for the free parts, to Ebruder for the front band, to TradeEx for the bayonet and sling, and the rest of you for your good comments. The final result is a bit "fatter" than an original, but hey, I like it like that.
My plan is to shoot it with open sight this summer, and to fit my scope on it for the next deer season. I got a scope mount from Gairlochian.
Now let's move on to the next project...
