This guy can use the 77B!

I had the notion that it was about the size of a Makarov, only slightly larger. Wrong. It is a big pistol. It is a novelty. It is also well made. It is good for the price, but it is probably better to save up and get a 1911 or CZ type.

I like my 77. You do have to keep it clean though.

At how many rounds do you start to see jamming? I have 100 rounds through it already and will just keep shooting without cleaning to see when I start to get failures. Were you getting FTE's or FTF's?

I put about 300+ rounds through mine but had to clean it because I just sold it. I had one reload fail to fire (slide didn't close all the way)

I shot an M77B again. I had to admit to the owner I had broken the plastic serrated front of the trigger. I recall several others saying this is common. The plastic covered trigger is the silliest thing I have ever seen. Others have said the grips are crap too. I said I would make some replacement wood grips for the pistol as my penance. When I make the grips I will take a picture.

Now then, what kind of wood and finish would you like to see? I was thinking a light colored wood, but I also like red wood. What do you think?

I would go with a grey/black Dymondwood laminate or to be a little bit different how about Mayan Bloodwood for the nice red look? Morodillo wood also look quite nice but it is bloody expensive.

I have 309 rounds through mine now with absolutely no failures. It feeds everything from 115 JHP to 147 FMJ. I still have the plastic trigger cover on it, not sure how much longer it will last as all the plastic seems pretty brittle. Everything else is top notch on the gun except the plastic.

D for sure. I love that black/grey laminate!
C looks too plain.
A gives me a headache!
B would stand out too much on an all black pistol. Zebrawood looks better on stainless IMHO.

Myself and 2 friends all bought a Norinco M77B 2 weeks before the 2006 Federal Election. The 3 of us did not own any handguns at the time, and we were hoping if the stupid Liberals got back into power, and they banned handguns, maybe we would be grandfathered into the handgun class if we owned one before they may get re-elected. On the same token, we didn't want to spend too much incase the liberals didn't care if you owned a handgun or not, and took our guns. We figured it was worth a $229 risk! Which leads me to my point.

Since then, one of my friends has bought a Sig 226, the other bought a Glock 17. We go to the range constantly. I don't have the cash to buy a better handgun right now, so I continually shoot my M77B.

I am so impressed with my M77B! I put almost 1000 rounds through in one day. Never cleaned it, and it only jammed once!!! I brought it home and cleaned it thoroughly. After adjusting the sights, it is really accurate at 15 and 25 yards. I love the gun, and for the price you can't go wrong. I will of course buy a better gun soon, but for just going to the range for fun, the M77B is an absolutely great handgun.

So it is a gateway pistol.....
mine turned into a CZ75b and a S&W 29

These really are very nice guns! I just came back from a CPCA practice shoot. I shot 549/600, which is pretty good! Most of the shooting was done at 25 meters... this gun rocks. I now have 418 rounds through it with no cleaning of any kind and still runs a 100%. My father was out as well with his P226 and he shot a 556/600... he was quite impressed with the M77B!

I think it is quite a nice starter pistol and has the legs to run with the big boys.

Deckard: If you do a good job with your friends M77B custom grips we will have to talk if you would like to do up another set.

I say do it! Buy the pistol, you know you want to! Even in the unlikely event that you absolutely hate it, you can sell it for nearly what you paid. With a 220 dollar pistol you won't be losing much! I had bought a P226 a few years back brand new and found it did not do much for me, just did not feel quite right. I had used it for a year or so and lost 300 bucks when I sold it... I have no worries about that with this pistol! Its a good pistol!

Deckard: Looking forward to seeing the pics of the grips when you are all done!

Stop this s**t. I'm trying to thin the herd and I'm getting Norkophilic again :(

Well I made a quick set of grips for something to do. I tried to thin them out as much as possible. This is a rough concept set without sanding and finishing - just a set to fit and learn from. I know the color is not the best either, just experimenting with dies on laminate.

So it CAN be done rather easily. I doubt I want to go further. I'll just make version 2 grips with finishing for buddy as promised, but without such deep thumbrests and a grey/black finish. And I won't use the cheapest laminate board out there.

Unless woodworking is your cup of tea, don't bother.

Just got one with no instructions. How do you take apart/field strip?

I am really surprised at how wide they made the grips considering that it is a single stack for the Asian end user.

It would be funny to see trainees trying to rack the slide with that trigger guard. Alot of third fingering the instructor me thinks.

I guess no one uses a front trigger guard grip with this pistol.
