Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

I did, sorry. Work has me swamped.

Dont worry everyone. I will be posting a list of who is being mailed a spring before I send them out. If I missed you or you did not get your name in on time. Please do not worry as I have more on the way and I will get you a spring.

If they are still available, I will be ordering a 522 next month. First I have to source a good set of aperture sights and see how much it will cost to dove tail or drill and tap the barrel. I really enjoy the peep sights and find them quite accurate on my sons CIL 180!!
This thread will be my blueprint for improvements/refinements!

First 5 at 50M after centering 5 post boresight, out of the box <bolt in> 3-9 Nikkon 22LR Scope, cheapo rings, Harris bipod, 10+mph headwind.

Now that I figured out the bolt <d'oh>, free float, Warne Rings, other tweaks as abilities allow. Used to shoot a lot, 15ish yr hiatus had 1813 Anschutz that was a laser beam, looks like potential.

"First 5 at 50M after centering 5 post boresight" what it means to me should have been more clear on my end, that was post boresight, dialed it in at 25 feet with 5 after boresight then blasted 5 at 50.

Went out this am, Attached pics. Changes made are new Simmons 3-9x 22 scope, millet high rings <could have used med but .. No wind.

The posts are 55 feet apart added 10 feet = 175 feet or 53m from muzzle.

5 round each group First group Remington Subsonics; Second Federal Value Pack 525 Champion; Third Eley Practice. The winner is Eley Practice.

The Clip "rivet: is a bit wobbly; and the rifle has a tendency to not cleanly spit/eject unless you are crisp with the bolt.

Yeah, I read many comments that you gotta have a pretty firm motion to eject properly.

Father might have got rid of that by smoothing it a bit with the work he did on the bolt tip and ejector itself.

I had the same experience with 1 of the ammos I shot (forget which 1 damn it..) just drop the mag a 1/2", and re-cycle the bolt, always came out.
I think it has to do with non-target ammo in the tighter chamber?

Windy, about 20 kph from the right, 70 yds, late afternoon from inside the garage facing west. I had picked up some better ammo from Gobles for fun, they say there will be lots more coming in, and all about 10% higher due to the exchange rate. These are the last of these targets which have been around for years, hence the torn up look. As far as picking an ammo to go and buy a case of, I'm not finding a big difference once you get into the target rounds. They are all shooting better than the "regular" ammo, especially the bulk stuff we all love so much. I'm afraid most of the differences after that are my fault!
For measuring, I just took 4/16 off the outside to outside measure, (note the $3.00 calipers!), so yes, I fudged in my favor, just to feel better lol. I like these targets because of the white centre, when it disappears from the crosshairs, it's as good as it's gonna get. The straight black bullseye is a bit harder for me. I think my trigger is the weak point now, I have some creep I have to smooth out or fix. Just an awesome amount of fun!!! Who knew making tiny little holes all touching( occasionally!) could be so gratifying!

I sure did. I got a huge improvement with de burring the bolt guide itself.

You can see in the Youtube vid I posted that I have zero issues with ejection and the bolt cycles smoooth.

acunning,

Your groups are impressive! Have a look at the flash residue on your crown and see if all the points of the star are even. Chances are the one closest to 2 o'clock is slightly off. Your rifle seems to be shooting about as well as mine did before any mods. Expect a 50% reduction in size after a new spring for the trigger and perhaps a crown visit.

Nice work.

Father, Nice thread - Thanks lots of little tips to get what is looking more and more like a little tack driver. $263 for gun, $165 Scope, $34 Rings, $43 Sling = $505....plus ammo plus time..

Going to go step by step to tweak further, Trigger has slight creep breaks at 3ish? pounds; fine for a little carry gun. Not sure why the pick links didn't post.

53 yards Eley Practice is the winner for me right now.

Have you notice a reduction of the lead shaving with the tip work?

That is a really good question you bring up. I will post some pics up of my results from polishing the "feed ramp".

I did get a reduction in lead shavings, but the actual solution turned out to be mag related.

Stay tuned!

I'll clean the crown and shoot some more and check, it's all pretty dirty, I've cleaned everything else as I go but apparently not the crown!

I thought it was great till I saw the flyer..

Floated the barrel with sandpaper worked up to a 5/8 deep wall socket, and ran 5 groups of 5 - It's starting to thaw that's my excuse for the groups below..

I think I'll bed it another day, I'll PM you for a spring if you still have them.

EXCELLENT thread; soon I'll have a cheap "expensive gun"
